Glen Ellyn Earns Tree City USA Growth Award From Arbor Day Foundation

GLEN ELLYN, IL — Glen Ellyn recently received a Tree City USA Growth Award from the Arbor Day Foundation just in time for Earth Day and Arbor Day 2022. The award supplements the village's long-standing designation as a Tree City, a distinction it has held for nearly 40 years.

The Growth Award recognizes municipalities that have made strides in developing sustainable forestry programs, according to a news release.

Arbor Day Foundation Chief Executive Dan Lambe said, "The trees being planted and cared for by Glen Ellyn are ensuring that generations to come will enjoy a better quality of life. Additionally, participation in this program helps cultivate a sense of stewardship and pride for the trees the community plants and cares for."

The village earned the 2022 Tree City USA Growth Award as it plans to replace old trees and add more than 100 trees, thereby nearly doubling the number of trees in downtown Glen Ellyn.
