Glen Ellyn Food And Beverage Tax Takes Effect March 1

Those who drink and dine in Glen Ellyn will notice an extra charge on their receipts after March 1.

GLEN ELLYN, IL — Residents and visitors who dine and drink in Glen Ellyn will soon notice an extra charge on their receipts. The village's new food and beverage tax will go into effect on March 1, adding a 1.5 percent tax to food and drinks purchased for immediate consumption at restaurants and bars.

The 1.5 percent tax, which was approved in September 2018, also applies to packaged liquor bought for consumption at home.

Village officials say the tax will help fund capital projects that include improvements to the Glen Ellyn Civic Center, work on Roosevelt Road, and renovations to the Glen Ellyn train station. The tax will remain in effect until bonds from the designated projects have been paid off.
