Glen Ellyn Mourns Loss Of Former Police Chief Thiele
Thiele served as chief of police until he retired in 2000.

GLEN ELLYN, IL — The village of Glen Ellyn is mourning the loss of former police chief Howard Thiele. Thiele's passing was "sudden," according to a news release from village officials.
Thiele started his career with the Glen Ellyn Police Department in 1966. He rose through the ranks to become detective and sergeant before being named police chief in 1991. Thiele served as police chief until he retired in 2000.
Village officials wrote, "As Chief, [Thiele] was particularly proud of overseeing the development of the Department’s Statement of Purpose and Statement of Values, which was a department-wide endeavor."

Police shared one of Thiele's favorite quotes in the press release. They wrote, "It doesn't cost anything to be nice." Funeral arrangements are pending.
