Glen Ellyn Moves Ahead With U.S. Bank Purchase, Panfish Park Lease

GLEN ELLYN, IL — Glen Ellyn has moved forward with the purchase of the former U.S. Bank property and has initiated leases of Panfish Park and Manor Woods. The village plans to work with the Glen Ellyn Park District to convert the U.S. Bank site into an event space and to make ongoing improvements to the recreational opportunities at the other two sites.

The U.S. Bank site will be sold to the park district and the two governmental agencies will work together to use $2.8 million in funds to transform the site into a multi-purpose event space.

The $1.65 million purchase of the property at 453 Forest Ave. was set into motion in Aug. 2022.

According to initial plans, the community space will feature a stage, improved lighting and more seating areas. A community feedback session about design concepts is slated for the summer of 2023.

The village and park district will also team up on improvements to Panfish Park and Manor Woods. Glen Ellyn plans to lease both properties to the park district and provide funds for annual maintenance.

With Panfish Park, officials aim to create a master plan that includes renovating the playground, maintaining stormwater retention ponds and other initiatives.

In a news release, village officials wrote, "The agreement will increase the number of cultural events and activities, while also creating new amenities by increasing recreation and park space. These new opportunities will enhance the downtown and make it a destination for residents and visitors alike."
