Shall the Glen Ellyn Park District, DuPage County, Illinois, construct and equip an indoor aquatic facility and issue its bonds to the amount of $13,500,000 for the purpose of paying the costs thereof?

The aquatic center would have featured a main pool spanning 25 yards by 121 feet and another more shallow 30-by-60-foot teaching pool at the sports and fitness center located at 800 St. Charles Road, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Those in favor of the pool said the pool should turn a profit by its second year though that would not cover the costs for its initial construction, according to the Chicago Tribune. They also said the pool would not cost taxpayers anymore since the aquatic center would be paid for through a tax levy that is set to expire.

Opponents questioned a need for the facility and said the referendum would increase taxes expected to decrease in 2018, which could mean taxpayers would pay $146 more in taxes, the Chicago Tribune reports.
