A 26-year-old Glen Ellyn man has been charged with attempted murder after he seriously injured his father during a family fight  in a hotel room early Tuesday, prosecutors said.

Bond was set at $1 million for Charles Mitchell, of 677 Roosevelt Road, who appeared in bond court in DuPage County on Thursday. Mitchell is also charged with two counts of domestic battery stemming from the Tuesday brawl, which first broke out between Mitchell and his brother in the room the family shared at the hotel on Roosevelt Road, according to a DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office press release.

During the fight with his brother, Mitchell allegedly beat him about the face and gouged his eyes. He then got into a physical altercation with his 61-year-old father, striking and kicking his father about his head and body.

When officers arrived at about 1:19 a.m., they found Mitchell’s father who was suffering from multiple head injuries. He was immediately taken to a local hospital where he remained Thursday in serious condition, according to the news release.

“Domestic violence is traditionally thought of as spousal abuse,” Berlin said. “The allegations in this case however, that Mr. Mitchell beat his brother and father, clearly demonstrate that domestic violence can take many forms and can cause severe, if not irreparable, damage.

Glen Ellyn Police Chief Philip Norton praised the work of the initial responding officers to the scene, as well as the detectives and evidence technicians who continued to investigate the case.

“Domestic violence incidents are often difficult and emotional for the victims as well as the law enforcement personnel who respond to investigate,” Norton added.

Mitchell’s next court appearance is scheduled for July 5, 2016 in front of Judge Daniel Guerin. Mitchell must post 10 percent of his $1 million bond to be released from jail.
