The Glenbard Parent Series: GPS Navigating Healthy Families has chosen Enrique's Journey as its 2017 Community Read and will host the book's author Sonia Nazario on Thursday, Aug 23 at 7:00pm at Glenbard East, 1014 S Main Street, Lombard, 60148.
Enrique's Journey's chronicles a Honduran's child perilous odyssey in the search for his mother and the desperate struggles of a family torn apart yearning to unite and heal deep wounds.
First published as a series in the Los Angeles Times, it was later expanded into a book which became a national best seller that is now required reading at hundreds of high schools and colleges across the country.
“Enrique’s Journey: The True Story of a Boy Determined to be Reunited With His Mother"” has won more than a dozen awards, among them the Pulitzer Prize for feature writing. Here Nazario asks complex questions about the economic, social and human factors in the debate about America's newcomers.
Sonia Nazario is an award-winning journalist whose stories have tackled some of this country’s most intractable problems and have earned her some of the country's most prestigious journalism and humanitarian awards. She is a passionate and dynamic speaker on immigration, racial discrimination, U.S. foreign policy, hunger, addiction and other social issues.
The Young Adult version of Enrique’s Journey is the suggested version for our students who are encouraged to join with the community when we welcome author Sonia Nazario to the Glenbard Parent Series at Glenbard East on Aug. 23 at 7:00pm.
