Teacher Charged With Buying Adderall From Student, 15
Police say substitute teacher John Mixer, 32, bought more than 30 Adderall pills from a 15-year-old he tutored.

GLEN ELLYN, IL — A former Glenbard District 87 substitute teacher faces felony charges of contributing to a delinquency of a minor after he was accused of buying Adderall from a student he was tutoring. Police say John Mixer, 32, of Bloomingdale, bought more than 30 Adderall pills from the 15-year-old, who had been prescribed the medication.
According to police, Mixer bought the pills for $20 apiece from the teen at the student's home and other locations between March 2019 and Sept. 2019. Mixer is also accused of getting the student he was tutoring to sneak out and sell him Adderall.
Police say the student's mom reported Mixer after finding "lengthy Snapchat conversations" between Mixer and the student.

In a statement, DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said, "It is alleged that in an effort to feed his drug habit, Mr. Mixer used his position as a trusted mentor to convince his victim, who has a medical prescription for the drug, into selling him Adderall. This alleged corruption of a young student, whom the defendant was supposed to be helping, is extremely disturbing."
DuPage County Sheriff James Mendrick said, "It terrifies me, as a parent, to even see a case like this, but it should remind us all to be very aware of where our children go when not at home, who they are in contact with on social media, and who they might be taking a car ride with."
