Hurricane Harvey's Ripple Effect on Dogs Needing Foster Homes

Please consider opening your home to one of these deserving dogs.

Hurricane Harvey has taken a toll on many dogs and puppies in Texas, but did you know that Harvey has also caused a ripple effect throughout many high kill shelters in the south? One of our partner shelters in Tennessee has not only suffered the many inches of rain that flooded the shelter, it is also suffering with severe overcrowding because the influx of dogs and puppies from Harvey has left many rescues full.

We would like to help ease their overcrowding and reduce or possibly eliminate the need for them to euthanize for space. Please understand, euthanasia is the LAST possible option at this shelter. They do everything they can to find rescue for these deserving dogs.

The dogs below have the chance to come to Illinois on THIS Saturday 9/9/17. But since we are an all foster based rescue, we need committed foster homes in order for them to ride to safety.

THOR – Male, About 8 months to a year old. A true Heinz 57 dog! Thor looks like a combination of Lab and Shepherd with Hound markings! He is a true puppy and love, love, loves water! He chases the hose when they are cleaning his pen and wants nothing more than to play! Unfortunately, Thor has been at the shelter longer than some others and his name is on the next euthanasia list if he doesn’t find rescue.

SONIA – Female, about 1 year old and Heartworm Positive. Another true Heinz 57 with wiry strawberry blonde hair and a stout body! Sonia will need a longer term foster (minimum of 60 days) to complete her life saving Heartworm treatment.
CAMERON – Female, About 8 months to a year, could be a Lab / Cocker Spaniel mix, but that is just a guess! She is smaller than a lab but thicker body structure than a cocker. Hair has the waviness of a cocker but not as long. Ears are more lavish in length. She could also be a Flat Coated Retriever. She is a sweetheart and her pictures do not do her justice!
PENELOPE – Female, Great Dane Mix . Penelope is a big puppy of only 6-7 months. As you can see by the blurry tail, she is one happy girl. She enjoys spending her play time in the run yard with her other dog buddies!
KIZER – Male Lab Mix This young guy is about 7 months old. He is a beautiful dog and his pictures do not do him justice! He is very smart and attentive to what he is told. He has a precious white tip on the end of his tail. This handsome guy will make a great companion.
If we can find foster for these deserving dogs, we will add more to the list.
