At the March 20, 2020 press conference, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker issued a stay-at-home order beginning on Saturday, March 21 at 5 p.m. through Tuesday, April 7. The Governor’s office took this step to help slow the spread of novel coronavirus (COVID-19). At the press conference, Pritzker also announced schools statewide will remain closed through April 8, 2020.

The stay-at-home order limits activity and business functions to only the most essential needs.
The order does not prohibit people from completing essential tasks, like grocery shopping, picking up prescriptions, getting gas or visiting a medical care provider. Essential businesses are allowed to remain open, including auto repair businesses, banks, laundromats and even restaurants that are providing food for delivery or carry-out.

Residents also may exercise outdoors and walk their pets, but they should practice social distancing and limit exposure to others.
This stay-at-home order follows new data of increasing local transmission of COVID-19, including 585 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 5 deaths in the State of Illinois, as of March 20.
