Drive-Up Window
The drive-up window is open for members who have been notified that their items are ready to be picked up only.
Placing Holds on GEPL Materials
We are currently working to fill hold requests, including requests placed prior to our closing in March. If you are a Glen Ellyn Public Library cardholder, you may place holds on up to five (5) items owned by the Glen Ellyn Public Library. We will use the email or phone number on your account to notify you when the requested items are ready to be picked up at the drive-up window. To ensure that you receive notifications, please verify the email address on your account.
Glen Ellyn Public Library cardholders can search the catalog and place holds on up to five items that are “On Shelf At Glen Ellyn Public Library.” If an item has “All Copies In Use” you can still place a hold, but it may take a little longer. Gizmos and Play Packs are not currently available for checkout. You may also place holds by contacting the library.
Expedited Returns
Staff are available in the library parking lot to accept returns from your vehicle. Returns will not be accepted at the drive-up window or in the drive-up book drop. You can return items to the external book drop near the parking lot exit any time. Returns will be stored in PODS for seven days before they are checked in.
Due Dates
Items checked out after May 19 have a loan period of four weeks, regardless of material type, and will renew up to five times.
Cafe Curbside Service
The Cafe is offering curbside service in the library parking lot.
Safe Handling of Library Materials
Library staff wear masks and practice current CDC hand washing guidelines when handling library materials. We note the date and time materials were last handled on items picked up at the drive-up window.
A study published in the New England Journal of Medicine on March 17, 2020 showed that COVID-19 will persist on cardboard surfaces for 24 hours and on plastics like Mylar-covered books, CDs, and DVDs for up to 72 hours.
Time is the best disinfectant.
