Lombard Couple's Love for Granddaughter, WNBA Star Maya Moore

Beacon Hill residents Bob and Petrina Moore Love to watch their only grandchild on the court

You may be hard-pressed to find bigger basketball fans than Bob and Petrina Moore of Lombard. But it’s not the Bulls they follow so passionately; it’s the WNBA. Visit the couple at their senior living community, and you’ll see them wearing lanyards around their neck with stats, schedules and photos of their favorite player to keep her close at heart - their granddaughter and WNBA star Maya Moore.

You might have heard of Maya Moore. She won two NCAA National Championships with UConn. And now at 26 years old, she’s won two WNBA Championships and a gold medal at the London Olympics. This year she was named one of Forbes’ Sports World‘s Brightest Young Stars.

Bob and Petrina Moore have followed Maya’s rise to stardom from her very first steps and dribbles on the court. Petrina fondly remembers Maya dragging her grandpa out to play basketball with her as young girl. Over the years, they’ve been to hundreds of her games around the country. The memories of their travls are spread in pictures and memorabilia throughout their apartment.
