The McAninch Arts Center (MAC) opens the 2025-2026 Season with Steve Solomon’s “My Mother’s Italian, My Father’s Jewish & I’m In Therapy” Sunday, Sept. 28, at 3 p.m. Solomon masterfully weaves different dialects and crazy characters into his stories that take on a life of their own as he recounts memorable moments from his past and makes hysterical observations about the things we all relate to.

Solomon’s smash hit is inspired by his hilarious family and all the people in his life whose sole purpose seemed to be to drive him into therapy. Variety says “Steve is Alan King, Billy Crystal, a smidgen of Don Rickles and George Carlin all thrown in.” Regis Philbin says, “Brilliantly done! I can't recommend this show enough.” Steve Solomon’s “My Mother’s Italian, My Father’s Jewish & I’m In Therapy” is written by Steve Solomon and is directed by Andy Rogow.

A native of Brooklyn, Solomon grew up in the multi-ethnic neighborhood of Sheepshead Bay. He learned at an early age how to use his gift for imitating accents to his advantage. He also realized that he was a prolific writer of jokes and stories.

Using humor, dialects and sound effects in teaching, Solomon became a physics teacher and an assistant superintendent of schools on Long Island, N.Y. before leaving his academic career behind to turn his attention to making people laugh. Motivated by his manager Solomon created his first show, “My Mother's Italian, My Father's Jewish and I'm In Therapy”! It would go on to receive rave reviews and play to sold-out crowds throughout the United States, Canada and South Africa.

Solomon has written four additional sequels to his original hit: “My Mother’s Italian, My Father’s Jewish and I’m STILL in Therapy;” his holiday show “My Mother’s Italian, My Father’s Jewish, I’m Home for the Holidays!”; “Cannoli, Latkes & Guilt... the therapy continues;” and, most recently, “From Brooklyn To Broadway In ONLY 50 Years."
