Man Dies After Arrest, 'Medical Emergency:' Glendale Heights Cops
Police say the man appeared to suffer from an "unknown type of medical emergency" after a "brief struggle" during his arrest.

GLENDALE HEIGHTS, IL — The death of a man is under investigation after he had what Glendale Heights Police call an apparent "medical emergency" while he was being taken into custody Friday night following a"brief struggle." The incident unfolded after the man was accused of "yelling at customers" at Valli Produce in the 100 block of E. North Avenue, police said.
Police were called to the scene for a report of a disturbance just after 7:30 p.m. Upon arriving, police said they handcuffed the suspect "after a brief struggle." Paramedics were called to the scene after the man started to experience "an unknown type of medical emergency."
The man was taken to Glen Oaks Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Metropolitan Emergency Response Investigations Team (M.E.R.I.T.) is investigating the incident, Glendale Heights police said in a social media post about the death Saturday.
According to Daily Herald, the man was 46 years old. Glendale Heights Police did not immediately respond to a request for more information about the man's identity Monday afternoon.
