Muslim Charity Donates $65,000 in Groceries, $4,000 in Fin Aid
Nationally, the organization has distributed more than 55,000 pounds of groceries and served more than 33,000 individuals.
Since Illinois’ lockdown, ICNA Relief Chicago ( Islamic Circle of North America Relief Chicago, www.icnarelief.org), the local chapter of a national nonprofit, has distributed groceries worth $65,000 to families impacted by COVID19, in the Chicago area alone. It has also donated $4000 towards local financial assistance requests. Nationally, the organization has distributed more than 55,000 pounds of groceries and served more than 33,000 individuals. Its Illinois head office is in Glendale Heights, IL, and a satellite office and food pantry is in W. Rogers Park, Chicago.
The organization’s next round of food distribution will take place on Saturday, April 11 at the ICNA Relief Rogers Park Food Pantry, 2809 W Devon Ave, Chicago, IL 60659 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“With the COVID-19 crisis, the need has skyrocketed,” said Dr. Saima Azfar, ICNA Relief’s Midwest regional director. “Not only are our clients low-income wage earners, now they are out of work or have seen their hours dramatically cut. Further, so many new families asking for assistance aren’t typically our clients but have lost their job or been furloughed and still have bills to pay.”
Further, ICNA Relief, in collaboration with community organizations, has launched a free TeleHealth Helpline to advise patients on non-urgent questions or concerns, so families can avoid medical clinics during this crisis. Licensed medical practitioners will be taking questions. The phone number and times to call are 630-444-7411, 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Mon-Fri, and 10:00 a.m. -3:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
“We are stretched to the limit. We welcome the community’s support in helping our vulnerable neighbors,” said Dr. Azfar. Donate: www.icnarelief.org/donate, Volunteer: bit.ly/VolunteerTaskForce
