New Riverside Trail In the Works In Glen Ellyn

The trail would connect the Great Western Trail with the Illinois Prairie Path.

GLEN ELLYN, IL --- Glen Ellyn officials have partnered with the Forest Preserve District and DuPage County to develop a new trail along the east branch of the DuPage River. The three groups have filed a grant application to begin initial planning of the trail, which would be located between Butterfield Road and the Great Western Trail.

According to a press release, the Forest Preserve District and DuPage County have each set aside $75,000 for the development of the proposed 4-mile trail. The Village of Glen Ellyn will contribute $10,000 to match the grant if it is approved.

The trail would link the Great Western Trail to Illinois Prairie Path and also create a link to Churchill Woods Forest Preserve. In a statement, DuPage County Board Chairman Dan Cronin said "We’re talking about just a few miles of trail here, but it’s a wonderful example of DuPage’s Accountability, Consolidation and Transparency Initiative. Three governments, working together on one project, hope to benefit trail users from Glen Ellyn, from DuPage and from our entire region."
