Nybo Appointed To Serve on Key Illinois Senate Committees

Sen. Chris Nybo (24th District) has been asked to serve on several key committees in the Illinois Senate, including acting as spokesman for the State Government and Veterans Affairs Committee.

The Elmhurst Republican was sworn in as the 24th District’s new state senator on Aug. 6, replacing Kirk Dillard, who resigned to become chairman of the RTA. Nybo is finishing out the rest of Dillard’s term until the November election, where he is already running for a full term against Western Springs Democrat Suzanne Glowiak in November.

“I have the privilege of representing great communities and neighborhoods in east and central DuPage County, and a portion of Cook County,” Sen. Nybo said in a news release. “I am an employment lawyer who works with businesses of all sizes throughout Illinois. I see every day why businesses and jobs are leaving Illinois. We must do all we can to keep businesses here, to grow jobs and to get our economy back on track.

“As a father of three, I am passionate about the issues that affect all families: strong communities, quality education, home values and safe neighborhoods. Property taxes have skyrocketed in our area,” he added. “And that is not the only tax burden we must address. We face an income tax fight in Springfield.”

The State Government and Veterans Affairs Committee handles legislation dealing with state agencies and their operations, as well as issues that affect citizens who served in the military.

“I have the greatest respect for the men and women who served in the military. We owe them our very freedom and I am looking forward to working on veterans’ issues and to making sure all veterans have the honor they deserve and the resources they need,” he said.

Sen. Nybo will also serve as a member of the Energy Committee, Executive Appointments Committee, Judiciary Committee, and Transportation Committee.

“With his career as an employment lawyer, and having served a term in the House of Representatives, Sen. Nybo brings both a wealth of knowledge and a fresh perspective to the work done by these important committees,” said Senate Republican Leader Christine Radogno (R-Lemont). “His energy and enthusiasm will serve our caucus well as we work together to find answers to the tough issues facing our state.”

The Energy Committee considers issues relating to regulation of Illinois’ public utility industry and energy infrastructure.

The Executive Appointments Committee reviews all gubernatorial appointments to state boards and commissions.

The Judiciary Committee examines complex legislation dealing with issues ranging from civil justice reform, to the intricacies of the state’s civil justice system.

The Transportation Committee considers legislation impacting all highways, roads and bridges in the state, in addition to proposed traffic laws and ordinances.

The Illinois Senate’s standing committees analyzes legislation dealing with specific subject areas, such as education, agriculture and transportation. Committees screen legislation introduced by all members and usually, only those bills approved by a committee may be considered by the entire Senate.

The 24th Senate District includes all or parts of the communities of Clarendon Hills, Downers Grove, Elmhurst, Glen Ellyn, Hinsdale, Lisle, Lombard, Oak Brook, Oak Brook Terrace, Westmont, Wheaton, Western Springs and Willowbrook in DuPage and Cook counties. Sen. Nybo previously served two years in the Illinois House of Representatives.
