GOP heir apparent Chris Nybo commanded the night, jumping out with an early lead over Democratic challenger Suzy Glowiak for Illinois’s 24th District Senate seat.
Nybo was tapped to finish out the term left by one-time adversary, former Sen. Kirk Dillard, who resigned from the state senate in August to chair the Regional Transportation Authority.

At the end of the night, with 93 percent of precincts reporting, the unofficial vote tally showed the Elmhurst attorney leading Glowiak, 40,255 to 26,966.
Nybo served one term each on the Elmhurst City Council (2007-2011) and the Illinois House (2011-2013).

He unsuccessfully challenged Dillard for the state senate in the GOP primary in 2012, while a freshman legislator in the Illinois House.
Born in Elmhurst, Nybo is a lifelong resident of the western suburbs. He currently resides in Elmhurst with his wife, Faye, and their three children.
When Dillard left office to chair the RTA, the decision to appoint Nybo was largely up to DuPage County Republican Chairwoman Darlene Ruscitti.
Just as he did as a state representative in 2011, the Elmhurst attorney says he will continue to forcefully oppose and work against any efforts to make that year’s “temporary” tax increase permanent.
Nybo also supports the pension plan signed into law, which is currently being reviewed by the Supreme Court, the Daily Herald reported.
Democratic challenger Suzy Glowiak, of Western Springs, ran an aggressive ground campaign, knocking on thousands of doors and talking to constituents.
Glowiak is a Western Springs trustee, where she chairs the General Government Committee. She also brings her skills as an engineer as a member of the Western Springs Village Board’s planning and development committee.
She’s championed a new mixed-use commercial and residential project in Western Springs and resuming the recession-stifled, 330-unit Timber Trails residential development project.
Glowiak is currently working with the planning and zoning committee to revamp the Western Springs train platform and streetscape, according to her campaign bio.
Throughout her campaign for the Illinois Senate Glowiak was a vocal critic against the revised school funding policy, which would syphon $20 million from 24th District schools, she told the Chicago Tribune.
The 24th District includes all or parts of Clarendon Hills, Darien, Downers Grove, Elmhurst, Glen Ellyn, Hinsdale, Lisle, Lombard, Oak Brook, Oakbrook Terrace, Villa Park, Westmont, Wheaton and Willowbrook.
