Outdoor Ice Rink Now Open At Newton Park In Glen Ellyn
The recent cold temperatures have a little silver lining: the ice rink at Newton Park is now open for skating.

GLEN ELLYN, IL — Temperatures have recently plunged into the single digits, but all that frigid weather has a silver lining: outdoor ice skating rinks have opened up in Glen Ellyn. As of Jan.7, the outdoor rinks at Newton Park is open to ice skaters.
The rinks usually open after several days of temperatures that remain below 22 degrees during the day and night. When the ice rinks are open, skating hours are from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. each day. Hockey is available at the Newton Park rink when ice skaters are not present.
Skaters and hockey players are advised to check the flag at the Newton Park ice rink to see if conditions are favorable for skating. A green flag indicates that the rink is open for skating, whereas a red flag indicates conditions are not safe for ice skating.

The Newton Park ice rink is located at 707 Fairview Ave., Glen Ellyn on the park's tennis courts.

Residents can also head to the Polar Plaza Ice Rink for ice skating. The rink at Polar Plaza will be open daily from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. through Feb. 21, 2022 for ice skating. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own ice skates or head to Paul's Shoe Service, 486 N Main St., to pick up a pair of new or used ice skates.
The curling lanes at Polar Plaza opened Dec. 2, allowing up to four players per lane to borrow equipment and compete.
