Polar Plaza Ice Rink Returns To Glen Ellyn With Kickoff Event

GLEN ELLYN, IL — Downtown Glen Ellyn's Polar Plaza ice skating rink will ring in the holiday season with a kickoff event featuring hot cocoa, funnel cakes, kid-friendly activities, pictures with Santa Claus and more on Nov. 27.

The free rink officially opened Nov. 24. On Dec. 2, the plaza will debut two new curling lanes that are also free for those who want to try their hand at that sport.

Families can start out Saturday at 10:30 a.m. by catching the free holiday movie, Arthur Christmas, at Glen Art Theatre, 540 Crescent Blvd.

From 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., downtown Glen Ellyn will come alive with a scavenger hunt, free photos with Santa Claus, and other activities. Warm up with food and hot cocoa from:

• Funnel Cake Food Truck
• Heavenly Hot Dog Cart
• Chocolaterie Stam's Hot Cocoa Cart

Visitors are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy while they greet Santa Claus. The toys will be donated to Glen Ellyn Junior's Annual Toy Drive. Kids can pose with Santa for a photo opportunity and drop off their holiday wish lists in a mailbox to the North Pole that is located at Crescent Boulevard and Main Street.

• 12:30 p.m. holiday music from Glenbard South High School Raider Voices
• 1 p.m. fall photo contest announcement from Go Green Glen Ellyn
• 1:30 p.m. seasonal music from Jenny V James & The Flames

Glen Ellyn Polar Plaza will be open daily from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. through Feb. 21, 2022 for ice skating. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own ice skates or head to Paul’s Shoe Service, 486 N Main St., to pick up a pair of new or used ice skates.

Curling lanes open Dec. 2, allowing up to four players per lane to borrow equipment and compete.
