St. Charles Woman Named Marklund Volunteer of the Year
St. Charles resident Barb Rhoads, a volunteer at Marklund in Geneva, took home the Marklund 2014 Volunteer of the Year award.

St. Charles resident Barb Rhoads, a volunteer at Marklund in Geneva, took home the Marklund 2014 Volunteer of the Year award in honor of her dedication to the organization and 584 hours of service given to various administrative departments at the Marklund Geneva campus.
Several Marklund staff members attended and thanked many of its volunteers at the annual Volunteer Recognition Event held earlier this month at St. Andrews Golf and Country Club in West Chicago.
In receiving her award, Rhoads thanked Marklund “for giving her a purpose each day.”

Others receiving “Most Hours Served” honors included:
• Tom Hahn of Rolling Meadows with167 Hours in 82 Visits at the Philip Center
• Anne Freeman of Wheaton with 152 Hours in 62 Visits for Philip Center Administration
• Maria Bonokollie of Glen Ellyn with 163 Hours in 39 Visits for the Day School
• Dolores Bettencourt of Schaumburg with 876 Hours in 108 Visits at the Resale Store
• Evan Clark of Geneva with 505 Hours in 120 Visits at Mill Creek DT Program
• Robert Hilsabeck of Aurora with 349 Hours in 82 Visits at the Mill Creek Homes
Additionally, more volunteers received honors in the following categories:
• “Special Event Partner of the Year” to the Borchardt’s Annual “Black & White” Benefit
• “Groups of the Year” to Community Fellowship Youth Group (for visits to Marklund’s Bloomingdale facility) and Christ Community Church (for visits to its Geneva campus)
• “Corporate Partner Volunteer of the Year” to BMO Harris Bank

Several other volunteers received pin awards for five, 10, 15, 20 and 25 years served.
Marklund is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization that annually serves nearly 200 families throughout the greater Chicagoland area. It has residential locations in Geneva and Bloomingdale, the Marklund Day School in Bloomingdale, serving children and teens on the autism spectrum and who have complex medical issues, as well as the Marklund Resale Store in Wood Dale.
