Streamwood Man Sentenced For Sexually Abusing Minor

Police say he failed to appear for his initial trial and now for his sentencing hearing.

STREAMWOOD, IL -- A Streamwood man who failed to appear for both his trial and his sentencing hearing will serve the maximum sentence for charges that he sexually abused a female minor in 2017. Carlos Quezada, 30, was sentenced to seven years in prison in absentia in connection with the reported sexual abuse, which happened while Quezada worked at Buona Beef in Glendale Heights.

On Thursday, Judge George Bakalis approved a seven-year sentence for Quezada, the maximum sentence allowed in Illinois for his charges. Quezada was charged with seven felony counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse in 2017 and found guilty in absentia since he failed to appear for his trial after being released on bond.

His charges stemmed from allegations that he had sexually abused a minor female coworker from August 2016 through January 2017.

At Thursday's sentencing, DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said, "In August 2016, Mr. Quezada began sexually abusing his victim simply to satisfy his own twisted desires. With a reduced bond, Mr. Quezada saw an opportunity to avoid responsibility for his crimes – which he took shortly thereafter. From the original charges to failing to appear at either his trial or sentencing, Mr. Quezada has put on full display his complete and utter contempt for the rule of law. I am confident however, that law enforcement will not give up and that at some point in time Mr. Quezada will answer for his crimes.”
