Taste of Glen Ellyn Will Remain in Same Location

Taste of Glen Ellyn organizers had proposed moving this year's foodie event.

GLEN ELLYN, IL - The Taste of Glen Ellyn will not be moving to a new location this year, the Daily Herald reports.

The Glen Ellyn Chamber of Commerce proposed moving the foodie event from a parking lot near the former Giesche Shoes store on the corner of Main Street and Hillside Avenue to a downtown commuter parking lot located just south of the railroad tracks between Main Street and Park Boulevard, according to the Chicago Tribune.

But business owners and neighbors opposed the relocation plan during a village board meeting last week, according to the Daily Herald. The chamber had considered moving the event due to development projects that are proposed for the area of the current Taste of Glen Ellyn location.

The former Giesche Shoes lot is part of a proposed five-story mixed-use development and parking garage. A carnival that is held during the festival, and is run by the village fair committee, could also be affected by a proposed downtown development. The carnival is currently held in the former McChesney & Miller Grocery store lot, which is where a $75 million mixed-use development is being proposed, the newspaper reports. Chamber officials said it would be up to the village fair committee to decide on what it would like to do about this year’s carnival.

Village President Alex Demos said there is still too much that is not known about either development projects to move forward with a move at this time, according to the Daily Herald. Others said having the event next to the Metra tracks could drown out music from concerts at the festival.
