Tips on Writing an Eye-Catching Resume

Phoenix Staffing has complied a list to help write a great resume!

Job hunting is both time-consuming and stressful. And nothing is more disappointing than having your resume lost in a pile of other resumes when the recruiter or hiring manager receives it. But here at Phoenix Staffing, we’ve compiled a few tips on how to make sure your resume gets noticed!

1) Reverse Chronological Order

When typing up your job experiences, employers and recruiters like to see what you’ve been up to recently. So having your most recent employment listed first is a plus!

2) The Objective Statement

This statement is becoming obsolete. Instead, include a summary of yourself or a list of your skill set.

3) Keep it short

If possible, keep your resume to 1 page. (Its OK to narrow your margins too!) This will keep everything concise and to the point.

4) Keep it simple

Standard fonts are Arial, Helvetica, Times New Roman and keep the size 10-12 point. Unless the position calls for creativity and flare, employers like to see professionalism and simplicity.

5) Contact Information

Nothing is more irritating than finding a well qualified candidate fall short of being hired because the contact information is missing. Include phone numbers, email, and even links to social media you may have. If we find your the perfect person for the job, we’ll try to contact you in any way possible.

6) Experience First, Education Second

Unless your a recent college graduate, your job history or experience should be listed first and then your education after. Again, we like to see what work you’ve done most recently.

7) Bullet points

To be honest, we probably wont read all 12 or 20 bullet points. And no matter how many responsibilities you’ve had in your position, only include the most important 5 or 6. Remember, keep it short, sweet, and concise.

Other than that, remember to keep it simple. A fancy border, a picture of yourself, and an interest section will more likely than not be over looked or ignored. Its all about the content. Use active and unique verbs that grabs attention. And format everything so it is visually easy on the eyes. (Spaces, short paragraphs, bullet points, etc). Also, it is important to add accurate dates of employment. This is will tell the employer your length of experience at a particular job and this could even make or break a job offer.

If you have any further questions, or need help with your resume, please don’t hesitate to reach us at Phoenixstaffing.net. We will be more than happy to help you perfect your resume, and maybe we can even match you up with one of our current openings!
