Update: College of DuPage Officials' Proposal to Faculty
College of DuPage officials recently presented the full-time faculty union (COD Faculty Association - CODFA) negotiating team a counter proposal to settle contract negotiations.
Among other items, the proposal included three key components:
- Compensation – College officials offered a highly competitive economic proposal that addresses CODFA’s demands while fairly balancing the fiscal obligation to the taxpayers of District 502. College of DuPage full-time faculty are currently among the highest paid community college faculty in the country.
- Evaluations – College officials proposed mandatory in-classroom evaluations for all full-time faculty that involve College Deans, who are supervisors of the faculty. The primary goal of implementing in-classroom observations as part of faculty evaluations is to meet the needs of our institution-wide objective of elevating student success. This is a critical component to ensure all students receive the best possible education at College of DuPage. It is also important to note that in-classroom observations, as part of the full-time faculty evaluation process, are implemented across many college institutions throughout the country as standard practice.
- Promotional Structure – College officials proposed a new promotional structure that recognizes and focuses on continuous improvement in teaching, critical to student success.
The next contract negotiations meeting will take place Aug. 27 and a federal mediator is scheduled to attend.
