Uplifting Signs Support Glen Ellyn Teen With Brain Cancer

Gabby Reese, 17, just underwent her fifth surgery to remove a cancerous brain tumor.

GLEN ELLYN, IL — If you've driven through Glen Ellyn lately, you can't help but notice dozens of signs that read "Fight Like a Girl" and "gabbystrong." The signs support Gabby Reese, a 17-year-old Glenbard South student who recently underwent her fifth brain surgery to remove a cancerous tumor.

Students at Glenbard South even made their own #gabbystrong sign outside of the football stadium to welcome Reese home from the hospital just 10 days after her most recent surgery.

The yard signs were created by Megan Rafferty-Flatters and Sheri Rovansek, two women who are friends with Gabby's mother. Rovansek told Patch she thought of the idea of selling yard signs to help the Reese family pay for Gabby's ongoing medical costs and to show that the community is rallying behind the brave teen.

"Let’s show the Reese’s and the rest of this state how we support our Glen Ellyn families, fight like a girl, and more importantly, let’s help find a cure," Rovansek said.

So far, more than 150 residents have bought and proudly displayed a #gabbystrong sign in their yards.
