This Weekend's Happenings in Glen Ellyn

Glen Ellyn is full of stuff to do this weekend, like the Backyard BBQ and Speedskating Club open house.

GLEN ELLYN, IL — Looking for weekend plans? Unwind from work, socialize, and enjoy time with family and friends at these Glen Ellyn events. Residents can also head over to the Fire Station 61 for the September 11 Ceremony Sunday night to remember the lives lost fifteen years ago.

Saturday, Sept. 10:

Glen Ellyn Backyard BBQ: Yum! The eighth annual Protein Palooza will take place from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Crescent/Glenwood parking lot. Attendees will enjoy various live music performances while enjoying delicious food from food vendors such as Real Urban BBQ, Skuddlebutts, Steamboat Barbecue, Cape May Crabcakes, and The Stand. There will also be a raffle, beer tasting, carnival games, and more. There will also be an awards ceremony to announce the Best Ribs, Best Dish, Best Chicken, Best Sauce, People's Choice Sauce, Grand Champion, and Reserve Champion.

Comic Book Super Heroes from DC & Marvel: Love superheroes? The History Center at 800 N. Main Street is holding a free presentation all about comic book superheroes at 2 p.m. Speaker Brian Russell will talk about how comics have both reflected and influenced American cultural and social values more than is usually recognized. You'll learn about what messages new superheroes from blockbuster films like Marvel and DC convey, as well as talk about old-time classics like Spider-Man and Superman.

Glen Ellyn Speedskating Club Open House: The Speedskating Club will have an open house at the Center Ice of DuPage from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at 1N450 Highland Ave.

Sunday, Sept. 11:

French Market: Enjoy locally grown produce, organic meats, baked goods, fresh flowers, jewelry, and more at the French Market. The Market will be held west of Main Street on Crescent Boulevard in the Crescent/Glenwood parking lot from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Sept. 11 Ceremony: The Glen Ellyn Sept. 11 Ceremony will be held at Fire Station 61 on Main Street & Pennsylvania Avenue at 7 p.m.
