"Who Was Valerie Solanas, the Woman Who Shot Andy Warhol"- Aug. 24
Fascinating talk led by COD faculty is part of a series of on-site programming aimed at enriching the WARHOL exhibition experience.

College of DuPage (COD) Professors Brian Brems and Trina Sotirakopulos present the upcoming free lecture, “Who Was Valerie Solanas, the Woman Who Shot Andy Warhol” at the McAninch Arts Center (MAC), located at 425 Fawell Blvd., Thursday, Aug. 24 at 7 p.m. This event is part of a series of on-site programming by renowned Warhol experts and COD faculty, aimed at enriching the WARHOL exhibition experience.
Valerie Solanas, the controversial author of “The SCUM Manifesto,” shot Andy Warhol in an assassination attempt at The Factory in 1968, forever altering the course of the artist’s career. COD faculty members Brems and Sotirakopulos, will conduct the lecture/discussion referencing representations of Solanas in popular culture, including in the novel “Drömfakulteten” (“The Faculty of Dreams/Valerie”) by Sara Stridsberg, the film “I Shot Andy Warhol” starring Lili Taylor as Solanas and the song “I Believe” by Lou Reed of The Velvet Underground.

On view through Sept. 10, the WARHOL exhibition features more than 200 original works and photographs by the iconic artist, including 94 works comprising “Andy Warhol Portfolios: A Life in Pop | Works from the Bank of America Collection” and a collection of 150 Warhol photographs. Unfolding over 11,000 sq. ft. of exhibition space, visitors also have the opportunity to experience Andy Warhol’s life through interactive exhibits, recreations and videos created exclusively for this exhibition, a historical exhibit, Kids Pop Art Print Factory, Studio 54 Experience, Central Park-inspired outdoor area and Silver Clouds installation.
