2 Brothers Charged Over 'Property Line' Ruse Burglary: Blotter

Glenview Police Blotter: May 2 - May 8

GLENVIEW, IL — The following information comes from the Glenview Police Department as a record of police activity and includes both incidents reported by the public and arrests made by police. Criminal charges, which are often dropped or reduced, represent merely accusations. Everyone arrested is innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.

INCIDENTS

THEFT
A resident in the 2900 block of Covert Road reported at 4:45 p.m. on April 30 that someone had stolen several checks and cashed them for a loss of more than $500.

THEFT
A customer in the 900 block of Harlem Road reported at 9:40 a.m. on May 1 that someone had taken their wallet after it was left on a counter for a loss of $400.

IDENTITY THEFT
A Kings Lane resident reported on the afternoon of May 1 that someone had purchased $3,000 worth of merchandise using their credit card number.

THEFT
A resident in the 1300 block of Hollywood Avenue reported at 5:18 p.m. on May 1 that someone had taken more than $300 from their bank account.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
A passerby reported shortly before 8 p.m. on May 1 that a mailbox in the 1900 block of Glen Oak Drive had been damaged.

TRESPASS
An employee in the 2600 block of Compass Road reported shortly before 11 p.m. on May 1 that someone had been on the property without permission.

FORGERY
An employee in the 1300 block of Waukegan Road reported at 9:24 p.m. on May 2 that someone had used a counterfeit $100 to pay for food.

THEFT
An employee in the 9800 block of Milwaukee Avenue reported at 12:45 p.m. on May 2 that someone was demanding free food and took a soda without paying for it for a reported loss of $1.

DRUNK MAN
An employee in the 3300 block of Milwaukee Avenue reported at 2:32 a.m. on May 3 that an intoxicated man was walking around the property.

BURGLARY
A resident in the 1500 block of Lehigh Avenue reported at 2:38 p.m. on May 3 that someone had gotten into their unlocked vehicle in a parking lot stolen items for a loss of $750.

TELEPHONE HARASSMENT
A resident in the 2400 block of Waukegan Road reported receiving unwanted telephone calls and text messages at 2:43 p.m. on May 3.

RETAIL THEFT
An employee at a store in the 1900 block of Tower Drive reported at 3:01 p.m. on May 3 that someone had stolen a pair of handbags worth $225 and left.

RETAIL THEFT
An employee at a store in the 100 block of Waukegan Road reported at 5:52 p.m. on May 4 that someone had taken $1,200 worth of alcohol and other merchandise and walked out without paying.

BURGLARY
A shopper in the 2800 block of Patriot Boulevard reported at 7:25 p.m. on May 4 that someone stole a garage door opener worth $20 from an unlocked vehicle parked in a lot.

IDENTITY THEFT
A resident in the 2700 block of Park Drive reported at 3:22 p.m. on May 5 that someone had made $300 worth of unauthorized cash withdrawals from their bank account.

THEFT
An employee in the 9800 block of Milwaukee Avenue reported shortly before 4 p.m. on May 7 that someone stole $700 in cash from the business.


ARRESTS

Elizabeth Alicea, 40, of the 2700 block of North McVicker Avenue in Chicago, was arrested 7:31 p.m. on April 30 at Von Maur, 1960 Tower Dr., and charged with retail theft.

Beatle Miller, 56, of the 1400 block of East Northwest Highway in Arlington Heights, and Walter Miller, 44, of the 400 block of West Enterprise Drive in Mount Prospect, were arrested at the 3rd District Cook County courthouse in Rolling Meadows at 3:20 p.m. on May 1 and charged with residential burglary.

The arrest followed an investigation into a ruse burglary that occurred shortly before 3 p.m. on April 4 in the 2400 block of Pfingsten Road in which they reportedly claimed to be working on a neighbor's yard and have a question about property lines. In that incident, $200 worth of jewelry was reported missing. State police said the two are brothers.

Richard Ramos, 23, 900 Windsor Road in Glenview, was arrested at 7:03 p.m. on May 1 charged with driving under the influence of drugs, driving with a suspended license following a traffic stop in the 3300 block of West Lake Avenue. He was also ticketed for improper lane usage.

Kenny Vargas, 36, of the 1600 block of Greenwood Road in Glenview, was arrested at 7:53 p.m. on May 5 and charged with battery.

A 30-year-old Glenview man was arrested at 1 a.m. on May 6 and charged with driving an uninsured vehicle with no license and expired plates following a traffic stop in the 300 block of Waukegan Road.
