2 Men Shot, 1 Gun Found At Apartment Complex In Maine Township

Both men were hospitalized after being shot early Sunday morning between Des Plaines and Glenview, sheriff's police said.

MAINE TOWNSHIP, IL — Two men were shot in or around the same apartment building Sunday morning in unincorporated Maine Township, according to Cook County sheriff's police. Around 2:40 a.m. on July 22, police responded to multiple calls reporting gunfire at a residential complex between the borders of Des Plaines and Glenview in the 10000 block of Holly Lane.

Two men, aged 40 and 39, were taken to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge according to police and fire officials. The 40-year-old man was taken to the hospital by paramedics, while the 39-year-old was given a ride by a private citizen.

Cook County Sheriff's Office Press Secretary Sophia Ansari said Wednesday both men were residents of the apartment complex and remained hospitalized. One firearm was recovered from the scene.

Although what led to the shooting of both men remains under investigation by sheriff's police, Ansari said there was "no threat to public safety." No one has been charged in connection with the incident as of Wednesday evening, and no one is in custody.

North Maine Fire Protection District Chief Robert McKay told the Journal & Topics newspaper that one man had been found suffering from a gunshot wound to his abdomen in the courtyard of an apartment building when firefighters arrived around 2:50 a.m.

Sunday's shooting come just over a year after a 17-year-old Glenbrook South High School student was fatally shot by a 17-year-old boy in the same apartment complex, Crestwood Condominiums, located just east of I-294 between Golf and Central roads.

Police determined that shooting was accidental. It reportedly occurred while the boy was "handling a gun" alone in the basement of his apartment. The teen pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter he was sentenced to up to three years in juvenile detention on his 18th birthday.
