Teen Pleads Guilty To Killing Glenbrook South Student

Angie Morris' boyfriend admitted to fatally shooting her Monday.

GLENVIEW, IL — A 17-year-old boy who admitted to fatally shooting a Glenbrook South High School student pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter Monday, Pioneer Press reports. He is scheduled to be sentenced on Nov. 6, the day he turns 18, for killing his girlfriend, Angelique Morris, 17, at his home in unincorporated Des Plaines on July 8.

Police said the boy shot Morris at around 1 a.m. while he was "handling his gun" at a party in a basement apartment in the 9900 block of Linda Lane. Morris and the boy were reportedly alone in the room at the time of the shooting.

Morris was headed into her senior year at GBS and hoped to become a special education teacher, her family said. The admitted shooter is a student at Evanston Township High School, according to his lawyer.

In juvenile court Monday, the teen told Judge Steven Bernstein he had shot Morris, according to Pioneer Press. His attorney asked he remain in custody until his sentencing date.

Although neither family offered any comments outside the courtroom, Morris' aunt, Veronica Knight, previously told Pioneer Press her family was upset that prosecutors decided to charge the boy as a juvenile.

"We're furious. We want him to be tried as an adult," Knight told the paper in July.

A spokesperson for the Cook County State's Attorney previously offered no comment on any possible charges related to the ownership or legal status of the firearm that killed Morris.
