Glenview Church Pushes On After Former Priest's Theft Scandal

A Glenview church will engage its members to help come up with a strategic plan in moving forward after its former priest was charged with felony theft for allegedly mishandling thousands from a trust fund when he presided over a Milwaukee church.
The Rev. Panagiotis Boznos, the new priest at Sts. Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church said his congregation “has been hurt” from the alleged scandal of former priest Rev. James Dokos, who is charged with mishandling more than $100,000 in Milwaukee, the Chicago Tribune reports.

But recent meetings between the ministry, parish and council leaders have the church looking ahead to more positive times, said Boznos, who had been assistant priest under Dokos and called his working relationship with him “cordial.”
“We want to look forward to the positive things we do as a church, instead of being stuck in muck and mire,” Boznos said, adding that the next phase will take place by engaging the entire parish of 600-some families in a series of surveys and consensus.

“We’ll gather information and put together a strategic plan,” he said. “I want our parish to become a united, worshipping community. Given our history, we need to work on that and re-emphasize worship in our parish and work on other projects here.”
