Glenview Detectives Catch Home Burglary Duo In The Act: Blotter

$242,820 check forged; Henley Street residents use racial slurs, threaten construction crew: Glenview police blotter March 14–March 20

GLENVIEW, IL — The following information comes from the Glenview Police Department and court records as a record of police activity, including incidents reported by the public and those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Every person arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

INCIDENTS

ELECTRONIC HARASSMENT

  • A resident in the 1000 block of 10th Street reported on March 12 that someone they knew had continued texting them even though they had been asked not to. Police called the sender and warned her to stop.
  • A resident in the 4000 block of Crestwood Lane reported received a friend sent harassing text messages between March 11 and March 13 demanding money for an alleged wrong and threatening to poison the resident's dogs.

IDENTITY THEFTS/CREDIT CARD FRAUDS

  • A Castilian Court resident reported someone withdrew $280 from their bank account at various ATMs and had used a debit card to purchase $33.25 worth of gas.
  • An Independence Avenue resident reported on March 12 that someone had changed their password with the cellular phone company the prior day and tried to open up credit accounts at hardware and computer stores.
  • A Larkdale Drive resident reported on March 13 that someone had used their identity to charge $5,000 to a cellular phone account and opened credit accounts at several stores and accrue about $10,000 in charges.
  • A Lindenwood Lane resident reported that someone used their identity to try to open a credit account on March 8. Someone was able to open a cellular account a buy an iPhone and iPad for an estimated loss of $1,900.
  • A Waterview Drive resident reported that someone had used their debit card at a bar in Berwyn to pay a bill for more than $200.

THEFTS

  • A representative of a developer building a restaurant in the first block of Waukegan Road reported on March 12 that a company that had been paid $2,500 to install a quartz bar top on Jan. 26 had never done the work. No one showed up and a representative did not answer the developer's phone calls.
  • Someone stole the registration sticker of a car parked in the 2400 block of Waukegan Road between Feb. 1 and March 11. The car was towered, triggering a $250 bill to retrieve it. The stolen sticker was found on a pickup truck with Mississippi plates parked nearby.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT
A Lizette Lane resident reported on March 13 that a man they know calls, shows up at their house and sends letters blaming the resident for damaging the man's relationship with a family member.

BATTERY
Officers were called to a parking lot in the 2000 block of Chestnut Avenue around 2:15 p.m. on March 13 and told a resident had pushed a tow driver in the chest and tried to open the door to the truck during an argument over parking in a resident-only lot. The driver declined to press charges.

HOME BURGLARY
Officers were dispatched to the 2500 block of Astor Court after an burglar alarm went off around 8 p.m. on March 13. Officers found someone had forced open a back door sometime after March 10. Nothing was reported stolen at the time of the report.

RACIST SLURS AND THREATS
A construction worker in the 1800 block of Henley Street reported at 12:45 p.m. on March 13 that a person in a neighboring home had shouted racial slurs at him and threatened to send her dog after him after a gate to construction fencing had opened onto her property during the delivery of some lumber.

RACIST THREAT ON VILLAGE VOICEMAIL
A resident in the 1800 block of Henley Street left a message on the voicemail of a supervisor in the village's inspections services saying that he "feels like pounding Mexicans." Police called the man back, who admitted making the comment "out of frustration" and promised not to make contact with a construction crew.

CAR BURGLARY
Someone stole a laptop in a black zipper case from inside an unlocked car parked in the 2900 block of Virginia Lane between 5 p.m. on March 13 and 6:30 a.m. on March 14.

THEFT
Someone stole $800 in cash from the purse of a patron at the Glenview Public Library, 1930 Glenview Road, between 7:50 p.m. on March 13 and 7 p.m. on March 14.

HOME BURGLARY ATTEMPT?
A resident in the 1400 block of Kittyhawk Lane reported that a man walked up to the side of their home around 10 p.m. on March 13. Then, at 2 p.m. the following day, a man walked up to the front door and asked it a person named Michael lived there. The resident said no and the man left in a white sedan with tinted windows. Police noted the man looks similar to a man arrested and charged with a home burglary.

SUSPICIOUS PERSON
A front desk clerk at Staybridge Suites, 2600 Lehigh Ave., reported that a 25-year-old man had climbed over the front desk and approached her office around 4 a.m. on March 15. When spotted, the man fled through the door to the hotel lobby.

BATTERY
An employee of the Baymont Hotel, 1625 Milwaukee Ave., called police around 4 a.m. on March 15 in order to kick out the occupants of a room as a result of multiple complaints about noise. One of the people in the room told police he had been battered by a friend but did not want to press charges.

STOLEN CAR
Someone stole an unlocked 2016 Mercedes-Benz parked in the 2100 block of Johns Court sometime prior to 4:10 p.m. on March 15.

BATTERY
Police were called to the In Paris restaurant at 3315 Milwaukee Ave. around 2 a.m. on March 16 for a report that a woman there had battered them. The woman was gone before officers arrived.

BANK ROBBERY ATTEMPT
An employee at Chase Bank, 990 River Drive, reported that a man wearing a hat, sunglasses, and mask with a silver logo drove up to the drive-thru window around 3 p.m. on March 16 and passed a note, which asked the employee to put money in the envelope and follow its instructions or explosives would go off. The robber yelled at the teller to hurry up before driving away in the dark blue four-door vehicle without any money. The FBI said the same robber is suspected in a Franklin Park robbery the week before and released an image captured by a security camera.

RETAIL THEFT
Staff at the Walgreens, 2871 Pfingsten Road, reported that a shoplifter described as a woman between the ages of 18 and 25, about 5-feet, 5-inches tall, 150 pounds and white stole about $40 worth of makeup products. Police were told the woman was wearing a gray winter hat, pink coat and a black long sleeved shirt and left in a newer black sedan.

THEFT
Someone stole $4,100 worth of jewelry, including a diamond bracelet, gold wedding ring and a gold necklace from a jewelry box in the 600 block of 6th Street sometime after March 10.

FORGERY
A resident of the 4300 block of Ivy Drive reported on the morning of March 15 that they had gotten a call from a bank employee looking to verify that the resident had written a $242,820 check to an unspecified company. Officers determined someone had apparently reproduced a check from the resident's line of credit and forged their signature.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT
A resident in the 300 block of 3rd Street reported at 5 p.m. on March 18 that they discovered cotton smelling of flammable liquids wrapped around the front axle of a car.

BANNED FROM NAIL SPA
A manager of Anthony Vince Nail Spa, 2620 Navy Blvd., reported around 5:30 p.m. on March 18 that a customer had disrupted business by speaking loudly when they would not honor an appointment. Officers warned the customer they risked arrest for trespassing if they came back to the spa.

CONCRETE LITTER
A resident of the 400 block of Bel Air Drive reported at 5:50 p.m. on March 18 that an unidentified man had thrown pieces of deteriorating concrete from the sidewalk onto their lawn and run away. Officers reported the concrete appeared to have been inadvertently tossed by shovel or snowblower.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

A 60-year-old Franklin, Wisconsin, woman was arrested at 1:20 p.m. on March 14 and charged with driving without a valid license and operating an uninsured motor vehicle following an investigation into a traffic crash in the area of Willow Road and Patriot Boulevard. She was also issued a citation for improper lane usage.

Dawvid Chayim, 42, and Avshalom Z. Chayim, 44, both of the 5600 block of Court Leona, Hanover Park, were arrested shortly before 3 p.m. on March 14 and charged with residential burglary after detectives conducting surveillance in the 2700 block of Aspen Court witnessed two burglars get into an unlocked home and determined they stole credit cards, a purse, a camera, a laptop, passports and birth certificates valued at about $7,500. Police reported a credit card stolen from the house was used for a purchase of nearly $450 immediately after the burglary.

A 21-year-old Des Plaines man was arrested shortly after 10 p.m. on March 15 and charged with driving without a valid license following a traffic stop in the 1500 block of Milwaukee Avenue. He was also issued citations for speeding and following too closely.

An 18-year-old Glenview man and an 18-year-old Prospect Heights man were issued underage drinking citations after police were called to the 2200 block of Linneman Street around 1:30 a.m. on March 17 for a report of a disturbance and found youths running away from a party. Officers also found one underage drinker who was so drunk a Glenview Fire Department ambulance took them to a hospital for treatment.
