Glenview Man Charged With Felony Burglary For Car Thefts: Blotter

An arrest was made following an investigation into a series of car burglaries in the Village: Glenview Police Blotter.

GLENVIEW, IL — The following information comes from the Glenview Police Department (unless otherwise noted) and court records as a record of police activity, including incidents reported by the public and those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court.

Every person arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

ARRESTS

Jair Miranda, 19, of the 300 block of Jeffrey Lane, Wheeling, is accused of no valid driver's license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, driving without headlamps, and was arrested at 6:55 p.m. Nov. 23 in the 800 block of Milwaukee Avenue. She was released after posting a $2,500 bond, and assigned a court date of Jan. 11, 2021 in Skokie.

John Colon-Hernandez, 41, of the 300 block of Park Avenue, Addison, is accused of speeding 35 miles per hour over the speed limit, disobeying a traffic control light, and was arrested at 11:45 p.m. Nov. 26 in the 700 block of Harlem Avenue. He was released on a $2,500 bond, and assigned a court date of Jan. 14, 2021.

BURGLARY TO AUTOMOBILE

Gerald Hacker, 40, of the 500 block of Cherry Lane, Glenview, is accused of felony burglary, and was arrested at 2:45 p.m. Nov. 28 in the 800 block of Wedel Lane following an investigation of a series of car burglaries in the area. Hacker was processed and was pending a court hearing on Nov. 29 in Skokie.

AGGRAVATED BATTERY TO A PEACE OFFICER

Brendan P. Darcy, 20, of the 2200 block of Linneman Street, Glenview, is accused of aggravated battery to a peace officer, resisting arrest of a peace officer, and was arrested at 1:14 a.m. Nov. 29 in the 1800 block of Waukegan Road, Glenview. Charges were approved by the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office and Darcy was processed. Darcy was scheduled to attend a bond hearing on Nov. 30 in Skokie.

INCIDENTS

CRIMINAL TRESPASS TO VEHICLE

  • A resident in the 1100 block of Golfview Road reported at 8:01 a.m. Nov. 24 that their ring camera captured video of a male entering the resident’s unlocked vehicle at 2:02 a.m. Nothing was taken from the vehicle. The male is described as 21-31 years old, wearing a mask and carrying a backpack.
  • A resident in the 900 block of Glenview Road called police at 7:39 p.m. Nov. 24 to report someone entered their vehicle while it was parked on their driveway. Nothing from the vehicle was taken. The resident had a conversation with a neighbor who reviewed their ring camera. The camera captured a male wearing jeans, a jacket, and a hooded sweatshirt underneath with the hood over his head, walking around the neighbor’s driveway, checking door handles, but all vehicles were locked. The video was captured at 2:25 a.m.

BURGLARY

A resident in the 1100 block of Highland Avenue reported at 6:18 p.m. Nov. 24 someone forced open a rear door to the home between 1:30-5 p.m. The person left muddy footwear impressions throughout the home, but nothing appears to be missing at this time and the only loss is the damage to the door, approximately $400.

THEFT

  • A resident in the 1700 block of Pickwick Lane called police at 9:05 a.m. Nov. 25 to report someone stole $18,000 worth of crypto-currency using malware.
  • A resident in the 4100 block of Cove Lane reported at 7:59 a.m. Nov. 29 that someone stole their vehicle between 5:30 p.m. the previous day and that morning. Officers located the vehicle a short time later, unoccupied in a parking lot in the 10000 block of Holly Lane, Des Plaines.

HARASSMENT BY ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATION

A Waukegan Road resident called police at 8:25 p.m. Nov. 25 to report receiving unwanted text messages from an acquaintance.

RETAIL THEFT

An employee of a business in the 3:36 p.m. Nov. 27 reported at 3:36 p.m. Nov. 27 that two people stole a cellular phone while purchasing two other cellular phones. Total loss is $1,199.99.

BURGLARY TO AUTOMOBILE

  • A resident in the 500 block of Briarhill Road called police at 12:49 a.m. Nov. 28 to report seeing a male inside their vehicle. Loose change was reported stolen from the vehicle. Total loss is approximately $5.
  • A resident in the 800 block of Wedel Lane reported at 2:16 a.m. Nov. 28 a male inside their vehicle. An unknown amount of loose change was stolen from the vehicle.
  • A resident in the 500 block of Briarhill Lane called police at 12:49 a.m. Nov. 28 to report gift cards and jewelry stolen from their vehicle. Total loss is approximately $265.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO STATE SUPPORTED PROPERTY

An employee of a business in the 2300 block of Lehigh Avenue reported at 8:03 a.m. Nov. 28 a door hinge to a bathroom was damaged by an unknown person. Total damage is approximately $300.

AGGRAVATED IDENTITY THEFT

A Lindenwood Lane resident called police at 12:18 p.m. Nov. 28 to report someone purported to be from the Best Buy Geek Squad obtained access to their bank account and moved money from their savings to her checking account. The person then attempted to convince the resident to send them some funds but the resident refused.

IDENTITY THEFT

  • A Winnetka Road resident reported at 12:13 p.m. Nov. 28 someone used personal information to open a USAA bank account and loan on Nov. 18.
  • There were 18 reported identity thefts between Nov. 24-30 related to the ongoing Illinois Department of Employment Security identity theft fraud.

CRIMINAL TRESPASSING

Officers responded to the 2300 block of Patriot Boulevard at 3:02 p.m. Nov. 28 regarding three males seen trespassing on the property. The following individuals were identified:

  • Adam S. Latreille, 19, 916 Rolling Pass, Glenview
  • Paul S. Latreille, 21, 916 Rolling Pass, Glenview
  • Benjamin E. Schonken, 21, 1409 Crown Lane, Glenview

All three males admitted going onto the NIPSTA property and were issued local ordinance citations.

AGGRAVATED ASSAULT

Two people reported at 1:14 a.m. Nov. 29 getting into a verbal altercation with two unknown people at a business in the 1800 block of Waukegan Road. During the argument, one of the unknown people pulled a knife. No positive identifications could be made.

ATTEMPTED BURGLARY

A resident in the 1700 block of Portage Run called police at 8:11 p.m. Nov. 29 to report that between 7:40-7:50 p.m., an unknown person was seen on video surveillance knocking on the front door and walking around the residence trying to find and open door. The unknown person then ripped the ring doorbell from the wall and kicked the front door attempting to gain access to the residence. The kick was unsuccessful and the unknown person was seen leaving in an SUV.

AGGRAVATED ROBBERY

An employee of a business in the 1800 block of Glenview Road reported at 5:57 p.m. Nov. 30 seeing someone stealing bottles of liquor from ta storage room. The employees attempted to stop the person from leaving. The person struck one of the employee’s in the head with a bottle of liquor to make their escape.

POSSESSION OF LESS THAN 10 GRAMS OF CANNABIS

Luis Perez, 35, of the 3800 block of West Lake Avenue, Glenview, was issued citations for driving an uninsured motor vehicle, possession of less than 10 grams of cannabis, following a stop for a traffic violation at 9:11 p.m. Nov. 30 in the 2800 block of East Lake Avenue. Perez consented to a search of his vehicle and 0.2 grams of suspected cannabis was found.
