GLENVIEW, IL — The following information comes from the Glenview Police Department and court records as a record of police activity, including incidents reported by the public and those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Every person arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

INCIDENTS

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
A resident in the 1000 block of Meadowlark Lane reported around 10:30 p.m. Nov. 19 that someone damaged a wooden bench worth $100 that was kept in the parkway.

COMMERCIAL BURGLARY
Someone broke into a locked storage unit and stole a suitcase and cell phone from a Castillian Court resident prior to 12:30 p.m. Nov. 20

ATTEMPTED GIFT CARD SCAM
A Thornwood Avenue resident reported around 2:15 p.m. Nov. 20 that someone had been sending them text messages asking them to buy gift cards, which the resident recognized was a scam.

SUSPICIOUS DELIVERY
A resident in the 1600 block of Independence Avenue reported on the morning of Nov. 23 that around 3:15 p.m. the prior afternoon, a home security camera had captured images of a person dropping off an empty box, with no identifiable markings, on their front door.

ATTEMPTED RUSE?
A resident in the 3800 block of Lizette Lane reported that around noon on Nov. 25 an unidentified man driving a white pickup truck rang their doorbell and identified himself as an employee of an unspecified "home energy company." The man claimed he was there to do "some work," but the resident told him there was no work scheduled. The man left in an unknown direction and police provided no further description.

FORGERIES

  • A business owner in the 4500 block of West Lake Avenue reported around 11 a.m. Nov. 19 that a former employee had printed and cashed more than $1,500 worth of checks without authorization.
  • Someone made 12 unauthorized purchases totaling more than $1,635 using a credit card belonging to a business in the 1800 block of Chestnut Avenue, police were told on the afternoon of Nov. 20.
  • Someone tried to change an employee's direct deposit information using the customer service fax machine around 1:30 p.m. Nov. 19 at an unspecified business in the 1900 block of Chestnut Avenue.

THEFTS

  • Someone stole a electronic tablet worth $200 from the 2500 block of Chestnut Avenue at some point prior to 3 p.m. Nov. 19.
  • Someone made unauthorized electronic transfers of more than $1,500 from a savings account into an unknown account prior to 4:15 p.m. Nov. 19.
  • Someone stole a $300 bike from a bike rack in the 2500 block of Chestnut Avenue prior to 9 p.m. Nov. 19.
  • Someone stole a lawnmower worth $300 from the 2500 block of Independence Avenue between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Nov. 21.
  • Someone stole the wallet and cell phone of a shopper at Trader Joe's, 1407 Waukegan Road, between 5 and 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 13 for a loss of $200, police were told on Nov. 22.
  • Someone stole a package containing a book from the front porch of a home in the 2500 block of Fielding Drive prior to 9:30 a.m. Nov. 23 for a loss of $8.
  • Someone stole a package containing $60 worth of clothes from the front porch of a home in the 1500 block of Independence Avenue at some point to about 10 a.m. Nov. 23.
  • Someone stole the wallet of a patron at Cafe El Tapatio, 9707 Milwaukee Ave., for a $313 loss.

IDENTITY THEFTS

  • A Brandess Drive resident reported on Nov. 16 that someone used their personal information to open up a credit card and make $4,000 worth of purchases.
  • A Willow Road resident reported getting a scam call around 3:30 p.m. Nov. 22from someone claiming to be a government agent asking the resident to buy a prepaid debit card and transfer all of their money to the debit card. The resident hung up.
  • A Robincrest Lane resident reported around 11 a.m. Nov. 24 that someone had used their identity to open three credit or savings bank accounts. The resident froze the accounts without suffering any monetary loss.
  • A Coral Lane resident reported on Nov. 25 that someone had used their identity to open up a cellphone account and rack up a balance of more than $1,400.

CAR BURGLARIES

  • Two unlocked vehicles were burglarized in the 1300 block of Pinehurst Drive during the night of Nov. 23 or morning of Nov. 24. Nothing was reported missing.
  • Someone burglarized an unlocked car parked in the 2200 block of Pinehurst Drive during the night of Nov. 23 or morning of Nov. 24, rummaging through the interior without stealing anything.
  • A resident in the 2000 block of Spruce Drive reported around 6:15 a.m. Nov. 24 that someone had rummaged through a pair of unlocked cars parked in a driveway during the previous night. Nothing was reported stolen.
  • Someone stole $320 worth of items from a car left unlocked overnight in a residential driveway in the 2000 block of Grove Street, police were told on the morning of Nov. 24.
  • Nearly $800 worth of construction equipment was stolen from two cars left unlocked in the 2200 block of Fir Street during the night of Nov. 23 or morning of Nov. 24.
  • Someone rummaged through a car left unlocked in the 2000 block of Fir Street during the night of Nov. 23 and morning of Nov. 24 without stealing anything.
  • A resident in the 2100 block of Grove Street reported around 7 p.m. Nov. 24 that someone had rummaged through their unlocked car the prior night without stealing anything.
  • Around 8 a.m. Nov. 25, someone stole a purse and a bag containing a laptop from a car left unlocked in the 1800 block of Chestnut Avenue for a loss of nearly $2,500.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

A 41-year-old Palatine man was arrested around 11:15 a.m. Nov. 20 and charged with driving with a suspended license following a traffic stop in the 2200 block of Sanders Road. He was also issued citations for operating a vehicle with registration suspended for lack of insurance, expired registration, no insurance and using an electronic communication device while driving.

A 74-year-old woman was issued a local ordinance citation for retail theft around 2:45 p.m. Nov. 21 after stealing $6 worth of merchandise from an unspecified business in the 1900 block of Tower Drive.

Neda Musa, 23, of the 3000 block of Central Street, Evanston, was arrested around 7:15 p.m. Nov. 21 and charged with retail theft after staff at the Von Maur, 1960 Tower Drive, reported she stole $1,055 worth of merchandise.

A 54-year-old Mount Prospect man was arrested around 8:30 a.m. Nov. 22 and charged with driving with a revoked license following a traffic stop in the 400 block of Central Road.

A 26-year-old Oak Park man was arrested around 10 p.m. Nov. 22 and charged with driving with a suspended license following a traffic stop in the 1200 block of Milwaukee Avenue. He was also issued citations for operating an uninsured motor vehicle and operating a motor vehicle with registration plate covers.

Thomas Pannackal, 55, of the 800 block of Carlow Drive, Des Plaines, was arrested around 11:45 p.m. Nov. 22 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a two-car traffic crash in the 9800 block of Milwaukee Avenue. He was also issued a citation for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. Four people were taken to a local hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Shawn E. Mazurek, 54, of the 2300 block of George Street, Rolling Meadows, was arrested around 9:30 p.m. Nov. 23 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and no valid driver’s license following a traffic stop in the 4800 block of West Lake Avenue. Offices also issued him a citation for disobeying a traffic control device.

Michael L. Urbanski, 27, of the 400 block of West Touhy Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 12:30 a.m. Nov. 24 and charged with driving under the influence of drugs or a combination of drugs following a traffic stop in the 100 block of Waukegan Road.

Javon Jackson, 20, of the 1200 block of West Carmen Avenue, Chicago, and Leanthony Speed, 19, of the 1200 block of Park Avenue, North Chicago, were arrested around 5:30 a.m. Nov. 24 following a traffic stop in the area of Alvin Court and Spruce Drive and charged with burglary to motor vehicle and two counts of criminal trespass to vehicle. Officers found them with some pieces of identification, gift cards and change believed to have been stolen from cars.

Violeta Maciuniene, 53, of the 1800 block of Ashbury Lane, Inverness, was arrested around 2:30 p.m. Nov. 24 and charged with retail theft after staff at Von Maur, 1960 Tower Drive, reported she had just stolen $255 in clothing.

A 19-year-old man was issued a local ordinance citation for retail theft around 6 p.m. Nov. 24 after stealing $369 worth of merchandise from an unspecified business in the 2400 block of Willow Road.
