Glenview Police To Host "Citizen's Police Academy"
"One of my favorite parts about the program was doing a ride along with the officers," said Dean Herrera, a past academy participant.

GLENVIEW, IL - If you've ever wondered what it's like to be a cop in Glenview, now here's your opportunity. The fourteenth class of the Glenview Police Department's Citizen's Police Academy will meet weekly starting March 5 through May 7, 2020.
"I joined this because I moved here from Chicago, and I was interested in learning more about Glenview and what the police do," Stacy Herman, a past participant said.
The academy, which is free to attend will meet weekly. Sessions are three hours each and begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Glenview Municipal Center, which is located at 2500 East Lake Ave.

Past participants have an opportunity to learn a lot about law enforcement and what a day in the life of a Glenview police officer is like.
"One of my favorite parts about the program was doing a ride along with the officers," said Dean Herrera, a Glenview resident who's taken part in the class. "I thought it was really neat to see and understand what life is like for an officer in Glenview because you don't think that a lot happens in Glenview but there are things."

For Cheryl Brown, another past participant from the academy, learning how a medical examiner handles crime scenes was fascinating.
"I thought it was interesting how he would approach a crime scene and be able to make determinations of the direction of the blood splatter and possibly where the bullet was fired from. It was just amazing listening to him," Brown said.
Participants will also have an opportunity explore the 911 call center.
"The most memorable thing that I saw was visiting the 911 call center. If you've ever had to call 911 you probably wonder what goes on on the other side. That was really impressive," Eric Behaveolos-Wolf said.
Applicants must be at least 18-years-old and reside or own a business in Glenview.
The deadline to apply for the academy is Feb. 1, 2020.
"I think it's very important that citizens be involved with their police to make the neighborhood safe," Deanne Drozdz, another past participant said.
