Man Batters Victim With Metal Pipe During Hate Crime: Glenview PD
The Glenview resident was arrested Friday following an investigation into the June incident.

GLENVIEW, IL — A Glenview man is being charged with multiple felonies following a reported hate crime that occurred in June. Randy D. Velleff, 69, of the 1700 block of Grove Street, is accused of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and hate crime, and was arrested Friday at the Glenview Police Department.
Velleff remains in the Cook County Jail and is due back in court this Friday.
According to police, the incident occurred on June 30 in the 1700 block of Grove Street. Velleff reportedly used a metal pipe to batter the victim during an altercation in the parking lot. During the exchange, Velleff used a racial slur toward the victim. Police believe it was a targeted isolated incident and there was no known threat to the public.

The victim was taken to Glenview Hospital, where they were treated for bruising and released.
Velleff was in court Saturday for a conditions hearing. The Cook County State's Attorney's Office approved the felony charges.
