Masked Gunman Carries Out Late-Night Armed Robbery: Blotter
Check fraudster costs business $100,000; video doesn't back up claim of handgun threat: Glenview Police Blotter, Sept. 25–Oct. 22

GLENVIEW, IL — The following information comes from the Glenview Police Department and court records as a record of police activity, including incidents reported by the public and those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Every person arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
INCIDENTS
CREDIT CARD FRAUD
Staff at the Abt Electronics, 1200 Milwaukee Ave., reported around 4:30 p.m. Sept. 24 that a Chicago man tried to make a purchase using someone else's credit card and left when he was told the cardholder would need to be contacted.
ROAD RAGE

- After a driver passed another driver around 8 p.m. Sept. 27 in the area of Willow and Landwehr roads, the car stopped on Willow Road, the driver got out and threw a red can at the other car.
- An employee of a business in the 2100 block of Pfingsten Road was followed to their job by a driver who cut them off. When they arrived, the other driver pulled up and yelled at them before leaving the area.
AGGRAVATED BATTERY
A patient at Glenbrook Hospital, 2100 Pfingsten Road, pushed or kicked a nurse around 12:30 a.m. Sept. 27 while attempting to leave.
SCAM EMAIL
A Mark Drive resident reported they received an email around 8:30 p.m. Sept. 30 that appeared to have come from a school and entered personal and credit card information before realizing it was fraudulent. The resident canceled their card and notified credit bureaus. No loss was reported at the time of the report.

STOLEN CAR
Someone used fake information to rent two vehicles on Aug. 23 from a rental car company in the 1300 block of Waukegan Road. Neither vehicle has been returned for a loss of nearly $66,500.
CHECK FRAUD
The owner of a business in the 2700 block of Patriot Boulevard reported on the afternoon of Oct. 3 that the business had been defrauded out of $100,000 since June. The owner told officers someone appeared to have stolen and forged checks taken from incoming and outgoing mail.
AGGRAVATED ASSAULT?
Around 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 5, police got a report of a man with a gun in the 3500 block of Milwaukee Avenue. Police were told a man in a black car had shouted profanity and brandished a black gun during an argument over parking. The man with the gun has a valid concealed carry permit and firearms owner identification card. Police checked surveillance videos from the area and discovered inconsistencies in the caller's account. The video did not show anyone pulling out a gun.
CRIMINAL DEFACEMENT
Someone painted an obscene image in black spray paint on the road in the 500 block of Michael Manor sometime prior to 6 p.m. Oct. 6.
CHECK SCAM
An Elm Street resident reported being scammed out of $2,350 via a fraud scheme involving a text message from a person who claimed to be a friend on Sept. 28. The fake friend asked the resident to deposit a bad check and forward a portion of it back to the scammer with a wire transfer.
NEIGHBOR DISPUTE
A resident in the 400 block of Briarhill Lane reported at 2:10 p.m. Oct. 9 that a neighbor had cut the top portion of a large bush in their yard without their permission.
STOLEN CAR FOUND
Police found an unoccupied vehicle in parked on Glenview Road west of Harms Road around 11 p.m. Oct. 14 and learned that it has been reported stolen from Chicago Ridge. Glenview police contacted police from the south suburban village, who arranged for the car to be towed away.
SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT
A resident in the 1700 block of Harrison Street reported seeing a person fall out of a vehicle while driving down the road around 7:30 p.m. Oct. 17. The person ran down the street and the vehicle followed her, police were told.
PHONE SCAM
A Wagner Road resident got a call around 10:45 a.m. Oct. 18 from someone claiming to be with the Social Security Administration and suggesting there was an arrest warrant for the resident's arrest. The resident hung up.
ARMED ROBBERY
Someone wearing a mask climbed over the front counter of an unspecified business in the 1500 block of Milwaukee Avenue shortly before 2:15 a.m. on Oct. 19, pointed a firearm at the clerk and stole $125 from the register before fleeing in an unknown vehicle. No description was provided by police.
STRONGARM ROBBERY
A resident in the 4100 block of Cove Lane reported around 3:30 p.m. Oct. 19 that three people pulled him out of a friend's car in a parking lot and robbed him, stealing $500 in cash and a wallet with identity cards.
HOME BURGLARY
- A resident in the 2800 block of Knollwood Lane reported that someone got into their house through an unlocked rear sliding patio door between 7 and 9:30 p.m. on Oct. 9 and stole a laptop worth $2,500 from their dining room table.
- A resident in the 1000 block of Castilian Court reported someone broke into their storage unit between 9 a.m. Oct. 17 and 8:30 p.m. Oct. 20 and stole a video game console worth $50.
COMMERCIAL BURGLARIES
- The manager of an unspecified business in the 3300 block of Milwaukee Avenue reported that someone had stolen $1,000 in cash, computers and consumables from the business between 2 and 9 a.m. on Oct. 12.
- Officers summoned to the 3700 block of Willow Road by a burglar alarm found the front door of a business had been shattered, but it was not immediately clear how much was stolen.
CAR BURGLARIES
- Someone stole a phone, three credit cards and a debit card from a vehicle parked in the 3100 block of Mrytle Parkway between 4:45 and 6 p.m. on Oct. 3.
- A resident in the 3800 block of Knollwood Lane reported around 10:15 a.m. Oct. 8 that someone burglarized an unlocked car while parked in their driveway between 6 p.m. Oct. 7 and 8 a.m. Oct. 8, stealing $3 in cash.
- Someone burglarized unlocked car in the 1000 block of Castle Drive between 12:45 a.m. and 2 p.m. Oct. 8, but nothing was reported stolen.
- A resident in the 1000 block of Castle Drive reported around 3:30 p.m. Oct. 8 that someone had stolen $5 in cash and compact discs from their unlocked car between 2 p.m. Oct. 7 and 3 p.m. Oct. 8.
- A resident in the 1900 block of Dauntless Drive reported that someone burglarized their unlocked car, ransacking it without without stealing anything around 1 a.m. Oct. 9, according to footage from their home surveillance video system.
- Someone burglarized an unlocked car left in the 2500 block of West Lake Avenue between 7:30 p.m. Oct. 13 and 10:30 a.m. Oct. 14, taking a small bag of makeup and dumping it on the road nearby.
- Residents in the 3100 block of Sandy Lane reported around 7 a.m. Oct. 16 someone rummaged through two unlocked vehicles sometime during the previous night. Nothing was reported stolen at the time of the report.
- Seven cars appeared to be burglarized after a resident in the 3800 block of Lindenwood Lane reported someone rummaged through their unlocked car around 3 a.m. Oct. 17.
- A resident in the 3200 block of Sandy Lane reported someone stole a manual and a wallet from an unlocked car parked on their driveway between midnight and 7 a.m. on Oct. 17 for a loss of $160.
- Someone stole a $163 pair of sunglasses and a small bottle of hand sanitizer from inside a car left unlocked while parked overnight on Oct. 16 to Oct. 17 in the 100 block of Pfingsten Road.
- Someone stole a music player, headphonoes and an adapter valued at $250 from an unlocked car parked in a driveway in the 3700 block of Springdale Avenue between 7 p.m. Oct. 16 and 10 a.m. Oct. 18.
TRESPASSING
- A resident in the 1900 block of Robincrest Lane reported around 3 p.m. Sept. 24 that a car pulled into a the driveway of a neighbor's house. The driver got out and walked around the house.
- A resident in the 1600 block of Magnolia Street reported around 8:45 p.m. Sept. 30 that someone in dark clothing was in their backyard and ran away after being spotted by the resident. Officers found the door to a shed had been left partially open but nothing was reported stolen.
BATTERIES
- The employee of a restaurant in the 3500 block of Milwaukee Avenue and an employee of a construction company doing work on the roof each told police the other had hit them after an argument around 3 p.m. Oct. 11. No charges were filed.
- Two people were seen arguing and pushing each other in the parking lot of a business in the 1300 block of Patriot Boulevard prior to 8:17 p.m. on Oct. 11. No charges were filed.
- Around 11:15 p.m. Oct. 17, a resident on North Branch Road reported an acquaintance punched them in the face as they stepped out of their home. There were no injuries reported or seen by officers.
CRIMINAL DAMAGE
- Two burnt areas of grass near Penninsula Playground at 2400 Westleigh Drive were discovered on the morning of Sept. 27. They caused an estimated $200 in damage.
- Someone dented the hood and scratched the front side bumper of a car parked in the 1600 block of Milwaukee Avenue between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Oct. 5.
- A church groundskeeper in the 2600 block of Glenview Road reported around 7 a.m. Oct. 10 that someone had thrown two chairs, one wooden picnic table, one metal round table, and the top to a barbecue grill belonging to the church into a pond between 5 p.m. Oct. 8 and 7 a.m. Oct. 9 for a loss of $300.
- The owner of a business in the 2700 block of Pfingsten Road reported around 1:45 p.m. Oct. 15 that someone had cut the electrical wires to the heating and air conditioning system on the roof.
- Someone scratched a vehicle parked at a grocery store in the 2700 block of Pfingsten Road, causing $500 in damage.
THEFTS
- An employee at the Glen Club, 2901 West Lake Ave., reported around 7 a.m. Sept. 24 that someone had stolen an unattended purse from a work area near the kitchen for a reported loss of $2,400.
- A business owner in the 4300 block of Di Paolo Center reported around 4 p.m. Oct. 1 that someone had failed to return a semi-trailer worth $27,000 since Aug. 1.
- A resident in the 1800 block of Culver Lane reported around 6:15 p.m. Oct. 1 that someone had stolen a child's battery powered ride-on toy worth $250 from outside of their home.
- Someone stole a wallet from a patron at a movie theater in the 1800 block of Tower Drive prior to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 3. The cards were later used at two Glenview stores.
- A taxicab driver reported around 11 a.m. Oct. 6 that someone racked up a $70 bill after getting a ride from the West Loop in Chicago to a home in the 3600 block of Liberty Lane. The passenger claimed to need to get money from the home, went around the back of it but never returned.
- Staff at a grocery store in the 2500 block of Waukegan Road reported that someone stole a driver's license from inside their wallet while it was in an employee break room.
- A resident in the 1100 block of Church Street reported around 11:30 a.m. Sept. 21 that they left their phone in the back of a ride-hailing vehicle. The resident contacted the driver, who notified them that he had their phone and demanded a $55 payment via an online payment system to return the phone. The resident paid the fee but did not hear back from the driver for a total loss of $1,050.
- Someone stole a wallet worth $85 from a shopper at an unspecified store in the 2700 block of Old Willow Road. Video showed the the thief took the wallet from a shopping card and fled in a gray vehicle.
- Someone stole a donations container from the counter of a gas station in the 3500 block of Milwaukee Avenue shortly before 1 p.m. on Oct. 14 before fleeing in a blue car. The thief had earlier tried to pay for items with a fake $100 bill..
- Someone stole a wallet from a shopping cart of shopper at a grocery store in the 1300 block of Patriot Boulevard prior to 10:30 a.m. Oct. 15.
- Two people stole a person's wallet around 6 p.m. Oct. 15 in the 3500 block of Milwaukee Avenue.
- Someone stole a laptop valued at $200 from a home in the 2600 block of Chestnut Avenue at some point prior to 1:15 p.m. Oct. 18.
- On Oct. 19, police were told someone had stolen a wallet from a patron of an unspecified business in the 2100 block of Pfingsten Road. The stolen cards were later used to make multiple purchases for more than $600.
RETAIL THEFTS
- Two women were seen running out of the Kohl's at 2201 Willow Road with two bags of clothing around 3:15 p.m. Sept. 24 before getting into a black vehicle and fleeing. The store reported $1,500 of clothes were stolen.
- A 33-year-old Glenview man was warned for stealing a package of cornbread from the Heinen's Foods, 1020 Waukegan Road. He was told he could be charged with trespassing if he returned.
- Three people stole numerous pieces of clothing from an unspecified department store in the 2200 block of Willow Road. They fled in a vehicle, it was not known what was stolen at the time of the report.
- Staff at an unspecified store in the 2700 block of Old Willow Road reported on Oct. 9: that someone had stolen $55 worth of clothes on Oct. 5, that another person swapped price tags on various items but store staff recovered the items and did not with to press charges and that another shoplifter had stolen clothing and shoes worth $132.83 before fleeing in a silver car.
IDENTITY THEFTS
- Someone opened a PNC checking account in the name of a Glenview resident at 2:30 p.m. Sept. 27. There was no reported activity on the account other than a $2 monthly fee.
- A Castillian Court resident reported on Sept. 28 that someone had opened an unauthorized Sprint account using their identity.
- A Saranac Lane resident reported that someone used their identity to open up two accounts at an electronics store between Sept. 19 and Sept. 24. One of the accounts was used to buy a computer for nearly $1,200. Two other attempts to open accounts at department stores were declines.
- A Glenview Road resident reported someone used their identity to unsuccessfully apply for a department store credit card on Sept. 30.
- A Dewes Street resident reported on the afternoon of Oct. 1 that someone had used their identity to open up a department store credit card and charge $485.53 to it.
- An Inverness Lane resident reported on the evening of Oct. 1 that someone had unsuccessfully applied for a bank credit card using their identity.
- An Elm Street resident reported on the evening of Oct. 2 there were 23 unauthorized transactions on their bank account for a loss of nearly $5,000.
- An Ari Lane resident reported on the afternoon of Oct. 3 that someone had used their identity to open up an unauthorized cable television account and accrued nearly $250 in charges.
- A Lake Avenue resident reported on the evening of Oct. 3 that someone stole a debit card on Sept. 27 and made 12 purchases at various stores for a loss of nearly $5,700.
- A Ronald Road resident reported someone transferred $12,215 from their credit union account at some point prior to the afternoon of Oct. 7.
- A Cariann Lane resident reported on the morning of Oct. 11 that someone had used their name and address to open an account with a cable television provider for service in another state.
- A Somerset Drive resident reported that someone had made $6,000 in unauthorized charges to their credit card since February though the resident was still in physical possession of the card.
- A Longmeadow Drive resident reported on the morning of Oct. 15 that someone had used their home improvement store credit card to make more than $700 in unauthorized purchases.
- Glenview Road resident reported on the afternoon of Oct. 18 that they got a bill from a hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, for services they never received between Oct. 6 and Oct. 9.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS
Deleana Johnson, 52, of the 4200 block of Oakton Street, Skokie, was arrested around 2:30 p.m. Oct. 3 and charged with retail theft of an unspecified amount of merchandise from the Mariano's, 2323 Capital Drive.
Ricardo Bahena, 22, of the 8800 block of Robin Lane, Des Plaines, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of drugs around 6:30 p.m. Oct. 4 by officers investigating a traffic crash in the 1700 block of Milwaukee Avenue who reported he failed a field sobriety test and was in possession of a device used for consuming THC. He was also issued a citation for failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash.
Isabela Ivanov, 24, of the 5200 block of North Virginia Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 6:30 p.m. Oct. 6 at the Von Maur, 1960 Tower Drive, and charged with the retail theft of $241 worth of merchandise.
Deanna Fleming-Frazier, 52, of the 3800 block of West Wilcox Street, Chicago, was arrested at 11:11 a.m. at the Glenview Police Department and charged with felony theft of between $500 and $10,000 following an investigation into an June 12 incident in the 1600 block of Waukegan Road.
Delwin V. Chacko, 22, of the 9600 block of Brandy Court, Des Plaines, was arrested around 2:45 p.m. Oct. 10 on a Cook County arrest warrant in connection with a charge of domestic battery after officers were called for a well-being check in the 2500 block of East Lake Avenue. He was also issued a citation for possession of a small amount of marijuana.
A 19-year-old Des Plaines woman was issued a village ordinance citation for the retail theft of about $815 worth of merchandise from a store in the 2000 block of Tower Drive around 5 p.m. on Oct. 13.
Fernando A. Alejandro, 27, of the 4700 block of Waveland Avenue, Chicago, was arrested at 12:08 a.m. Oct. 14 and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol after officers investigated a vehicle parked in the 1400 block of Milwaukee Avenue. He was also issued a citation for possession of a small amount of marijuana.
John Y. Kim, 67, of the 2500 block of Virginia Lane, Northbrook, was arrested around 12:30 a.m. Oct. 14 and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop on the 2100 block of Shermer Road. He was also issued a citation for improper lane usage .
David Ray, 54, of the 1200 block of Highway 49 in Rector, Arkansas, was arrested around 8:15 p.m. Oct. 15 in the 1900 block East Lake Avenue and charged with aggravated fleeing and eluding after fleeing from officers who tried to stop him after seeing him drive into incoming traffic. He was also issued citations for improper lane usage, speeding 21-25 mph over the speed limit, improper passing, illegal squealing of tires and disobeying a traffic control device.
Johnathan J. Hacker, 39, of the 500 block of Cherry Lane, Glenview, was arrested around 3:30 a.m. Oct. 17 in the 3900 block of Rugen Road and charged with criminal trespass to vehicle after a resident told police they saw him rummaging through a car.
A 21-year-old Glenview man was issued a citation around 4:10 p.m. on Oct. 19 for scratching someone's car in the 1900 block of Palmgren Drive.
