New District Health Center Set To Open At Glenbrook South
A ribbon-cutting ceremony with U.S. Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky and State Senator Laura Fine is planned for Friday.

GLENVIEW, IL — With the help of a one-time grant of $250,000 and nearly $1.09 million in unbudgeted reimbursements from FEMA for COVID-19 expenses, Glenbrook High School District 225 is set to open a new health center on the Glenbrook South campus. A ribbon-cutting ceremony with U.S. Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky and State Senator Laura Fine is planned for Friday at 4000 W. Lake Ave.
The Glenbrook School Health Center, in partnership with Advocate Health, will provide students and staff members access to quality medical care that supports their health and keeps them in school. District officials said the center will complement services currently offered by the school nurse for students who may need more complex care. Services are provided at no cost to students and staff.
According to the district's website, some of the more frequent services students will use the center for include:

- School and athletic physical examinations
- Immunizations
- Individual counseling session with a social worker
- Examination, diagnosis, and treatment of complaints of pain or illness such as
- Ear pain
- Eye irritation
- Rashes or skin irritants
- Complaints of headaches or stomach and other minor aches
- Minor wounds such as non-severe cuts, blisters, and skin abrasions
- Screenings for dental, vision, hearing and other problems
- Point of care testing (e.g., glucose, strep throat, COVID-19)
- Diagnostic lab tests
- Referral for emergency treatment
The district is crediting Schakowsky and Fine with helping to secure the $250,000 grant, which was sourced through the 2021 Community Project Funding process as part of the Omnibus spending bill.
Additionally, the $1.09 million came from unanticipated reimbursements from FEMA for previously submitted COVID-19 expenses by the district, which supplemented the one-time construction costs.

The Glenbrook Health Center will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Students will be able to schedule appointments before, during and after school.
The center will be staffed by Advocate Health, which will maintain all records subject to medical facility privacy laws. All District 225 students under the age of 18 will need to have a parental consent form on file before being seen in the health center, according to the district.
Students at Glenbrook North High School and Glenbrook Off-Campus may request transportation when they schedule appointments.
