No Decision Yet On Monday Classes After Glenbrook South Fire: Official
Classes at the Glenbrook South High School campus were canceled Friday following a Thursday fire that started in the school's wood shop.

GLENVIEW, IL — While students are being allowed back on campus to retrieve their belongings, a decision on whether classes will resume Monday at Glenbrook South has not been made following a Thursday fire. A Glenbrook High School District 225 official told Patch that the situation is currently being assessed by the administration and "everyone involved."
The Glenview Fire Department responded to a call of a reported fire at 3:05 p.m. Thursday at GBS's wood shop. By 3:22, the fire was deemed under control. There were no injuries, and no students, GBS staff or emergency personnel were taken to the hospital.

Following the cancelation of all athletic events Thursday and other on-campus activities at GBS, including a band concert, the district opted to cancel school Friday with no one allowed on campus. On Friday, District 225 released a staggered schedule for students to retrieve their belongings throughout the day through 4 p.m. Parents are not allowed in the building, and students can only enter the main building through the west entrance (Door O).

Neighboring Glenbrook North remains open Friday, though students in the Academy program are not being allowed to travel to GBS.

Details of how much damage was done on campus due to the fire have not been released. The Glenview Fire Department said in a Thursday night press release that it was assisted by Niles, North Main, Morton Grove, Elk Grove and Skokie fire departments. The last company left the scene at 6:11 p.m. Officials said no other parts of the building were damaged by the fire, which is believed to be accidental, but remains under investigation.
