As the male passenger attempted to exit the vehicle, Djerrah reportedly accelerated, causing the victim to fall from the taxi, strike the ground and sustain severe injuries. At the time, Glenview police had said the victim was hospitalized as a result of his injuries

The North Regional Violent Crimes Task Force assisted in the investigation and Djerrah. He was taken into custody as a person of interest on the day of the incident in the 6900 block of Milwaukee Avenue in Niles.

Initial reports circulating about the incident had suggested it involved a shooting, but Glenview police cleared this up, saying their investigation revealed there were no firearms.

The charges against Djerrah were filed after police reviewed the case with the Cook County State's Attorney’s Office. Djerrah was processed and subsequently released. He is due back in court on March 26.
