Repeat Shoplifter Charged Over 30 Razorblade Packages: Blotter

GLENVIEW, IL — The following information comes from the Glenview Police Department as a record of police activity and includes both incidents reported by the public and arrests made by police. Readers are reminded that an arrest is not an indicator of guilt and criminal charges represent merely accusations. All persons arrested are innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

INCIDENTS

RETAIL THEFT
An employee in the 2200 block of Willow Road reported around 3 p.m. on March 18 that someone stole a brush worth $21 from a display and walked out.

IDENTITY THEFT
A resident in the 1600 block of Brandon Road reported on the afternoon of March 20 that someone had opened a cable account without permission, but there was no loss reported.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE
A utility worker in the 1800 block of Wyndham Circle reported $100 worth of damage to a service meter at 4:30 p.m. on March 20.

RETAIL THEFT
An employee in the 100 block of Waukegan reported at 8:15 p.m. on March 20 that someone removed several bottles of alcohol from a store shelf and walked out. The total loss was not immediately known.

RETAIL THEFT
An employee in the 100 block of Waukegan reported at 8:15 p.m. on March 20 that someone stole a bottle of alcohol worth $52.

IDENTITY THEFT
A resident in the 1500 block of Sequoia Trail reported at 9:42 a.m. on March 21 that someone had used their personal information to open several credit accounts.

PHONE HARASSMENT
A resident in the 1100 block of Pine Street reported receiving unwanted telephone calls at 12:08 p.m. on March 21.

DISTURBANCE
An employee in the 2100 block of Pfingsten Road reported a dispute with a customer at 9:16 p.m. on March 21.

PHONE HARASSMENT
An employee in the 2500 block of Waukegan Road reported at 9:35 a.m. on March 22 that a customer had called several times, gotten angry and swore at the employee.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT
A shopper in the 1400 block of Waukegan Road reported around 2 p.m. on March 22 that an intoxicated was "grabbing at passing cars" in the parking lot. Police said a very drunk 55-year-old man was taken to the hospital. No charges were filed.

RETAIL THEFT
An employee in the 2500 block of Waukegan Road reported shortly before 4 p.m. that a customer had stolen $110 worth of alcohol from a shelf.

IDENTITY THEFT
On March 21, a resident in the 1400 block of Glenwood Avenue reported that someone had used their personal information to open a line of credit, no money was immediately reported lost.

IDENTITY THEFT
A resident in the 2500 block of Dewes Street reported on March 23 that someone had filed an application for Social Security benefits using their personal information, although there was no loss.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT
An employee in the 1900 block of Tower Drive reported at 12:17 p.m. on March 23 that someone had "repeatedly approached them" at their workplace without permission.

STOLEN CREDIT CARD
A customer in the 3800 block of Willow Road reported on the afternoon of March 23 that someone had stolen their wallet, worth $20 and containing credit cards, from an unlocked locker. Those cards were later fraudulently used to purchase $415 worth of merchandise from a store in Mount Prospect. Someone tried to use them twice more, but those transactions were declined.

TRESPASSING
A customer in the 1800 block of Landwehr Road reported at 4:45 p.m. on March 23 that three young people had gotten into a car in the parking lot without permission. They ran away after they were seen.

FORGERY
An employee in the 1800 block of Elmdale Avenue reported at 5:46 p.m. on March 23 that someone had altered a business check and cashed it for a loss of $3,200.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT
A resident in the 1600 block of Greenwood Road reported at 3:44 a.m. on March 24 that a man had indecently exposed himself in a parking lot before running away.

IDENTITY THEFT
A resident in the 3200 block of Knollwood Lane reported at 6:30 p.m. on March 24 that they had been getting checkbooks in the mail for an account they never opened.

UNWANTED PERSON
An employee in the 1500 block of Milwaukee Avenue reported at 12:55 p.m. on March 25 that a customer had broken violated their contract and had to leave.

STOLEN CAR
An employee at a car dealership in the 200 block of Waukegan Road reported a customer was given a loaner car at 9:35 a.m. on March 26 and never returned it after their car was fixed on 22. The dealership got the car back and declined to press charges.

RETAIL THEFT
An employee in the 2200 block of Willow Road reported at 2:28 p.m. on March 26 that someone had stolen earrings, sunglasses and clothing worth $81 from a display and walked out.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT
A resident in the 2100 block of Dauntless Drive reported on the afternoon of March 26 that someone had knocked over various landscaping items.

RETAIL THEFT
An employee in the 2200 block of Willow Road reported shortly before 5 p.m. on March 26 that someone had taken a sweater and switched its price tags for a $70 loss.

RETAIL THEFT
An employee in the 1300 Patriot Boulevard reported shortly before 9 p.m. on March 26 that someone had removed an unknown number of bottles of liquor from a shelf and left the store without paying.


ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Daniel Fernandez, 40, of the 7000 block of North Sheridan Road in Chicago, was arrested shortly before 7 p.m. at Abt Electronics in the 1200 block of Milwaukee Avenue and charged with retail theft after he reportedly returned a $249 set of headphones he had stole on March 12 to staff and admitted the theft.

A 27-year-old Glenview man was arrested at 1:20 a.m. on March 20 and charged with drivign without a valid driver's licence following a traffic stop. He was also ticketed for not having insurance and a rear license plate light.

Amen Altaf, 26, of the 1800 block of East Boulder Drive in Mount Prospect, was arrested at 4:30 p.m on March 20 and charged with possession of cannabis following a traffic stop in the 3600 block of East Lake Avenue.

A 21-year-old Blue Island man was arrested at 11:49 p.m. on March 20 and charged with driving on a suspended license following a traffic stop in the 1600 block of East Lake Avenue.

Curtis L. Rogers, 62, of the 700 block of North Christiana Avenue in Chicago, was arrested at 5 p.m. on March 22 at the Glenview Police Department by detectives investigating three retail thefts that took place at a grocery store in the 0-100 block of Waukegan Road on Feb. 23, March 6 and March 14. Between the three incidents, he reportedly stole more than 25 packages of razor blades worth $880. Prosecutors approved three counts of felony retail theft because of his previous shoplifting convictions. On March 28, he remained held at Cook County Jail in lieu of 10 percent of a $10,000 bond.

Andreas R. Vassilos, 62, of the 2400 block of Kenton Avenue in Chicago, was arrested at the Glenview Police Department at 8:43 p.m. on March 22 and charged with violation of an order of protection after an investigation into letters he had allegedly sent.

Andre Almarez, 47, of the 14700 block of Clifton Park Avenue in Midlothian, was arrested at 6:40 p.m. on March 22 at the Glenbrook Hospital Emergency Room and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. Police said he crashed into another car and was taken to the hospital to be checked out. The other driver was not injured. Almarez was also ticketed for an improper turn.

Stacey Brayboy, 41, of the 1800 block of West Grand Avenue in Chicago, was arrested at 9:37 p.m. on march 23 in the 500 block of Milwaukee Avenue and charged with domestic battery and resisting arrest.

A 25-year-old Chicago man was arrested at 11:24 p.m. on March 23 and charged with driving without a valid license after he was pulled over for speeding in the 3300 block of East Lake Avenue.

Michael Miranda, 42, of the 0-100 block of Washington Street in Glenview, was arrested around 8 p.m. on March 24 in the block of his residence and charged with domestic battery and interfering with the reporting of domestic violence.

Andrew Swanson, 33, of the 3900 block of Brett Lane in Glenview, was arrested at 2:29 a.m. on March 25 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol following a traffic stop in the 1200 block of Greenwood Road. He was also issued tickets for driving under the influence of alcohol, speeding and improper lane use.

A 22-year-old Chicago man was arrested at 2:48 a.m. on March 26 and charged with driving on a suspended driver's license following a traffic stop in the 500 block of Golf Road. He was also ticketed for speeding.
