State Report Card 2023: Find Out How Glenview Schools Fared

The Illinois State Board of Education released its annual report on Monday.

GLENVIEW, IL — Is your school district making the grade? Annually, the Illinois State Board of Education releases a report that summarizes how the state, districts and individual schools are doing in a variety of areas.

On Monday, ISBE updates the report for schools and districts across the state. Academic performance, school environment, along with information about educators and students are included in the report.

"The Report Card offers a complete picture of student and school performance in order to inform and empower families and communities as they support their local schools," ISBE said on its website regarding Monday's release.

In Glenview, Glenview School District 34, Glenbrook High School District 225 and Northbrook/Glenview District 30 were all graded. Here's a glance of how each fared:

Glenview Community Consolidated School District 34

  • No. of elementary schools — 8 (Attea Middle School, Springman Middle School, Glen Grove Elementary, Henking Elementary, Hoffman Elementary, Lyon Elementary, Pleasant Ridge Elementary, Westbrook Elementary)
  • 4 received an exemplary designation (highest rating) — Springman, Glen Grove, Henking, Hoffman
  • 4 received a commendable rating (second-highest rating) — Attea, Hoffman, Lyon, Pleasant Ridge
  • 58 percent of students demonstrated proficiency in English Language Arts, compared to 35 percent in the state
  • 55 percent of students demonstrated proficiency in Math, compared to 27 percent in the state
  • 73 percent of students demonstrated proficiency in Science, compared to 51 percent in the state
  • 99 percent participation rate with testing
  • 92 percent teacher retention rate in district
  • $18,841 spending per student, down 2.78 percent compared to 2022

"Glenview School District 34 is proud to serve students from diverse backgrounds. Given the many opportunities we want to provide for our students, making the most of every dollar we receive is very important to us," the district said on the ISBE website. "We look forward to using our data to inform our FY24 budget and coordinate with our district and school leaders in order to make sure that we are spending in a way that provides equity of opportunity to every school and every student."

Glenbrook High School District 225

  • No. of schools — 2 (Glenbrook North and Glenbrook South)
  • Both received a commendable designation (second-highest rating)
  • 96 percent graduation rate compared to 88 percent in state
  • 18 percent chronic absenteeism compared to 28.3 percent in state
  • 94.3 percent teacher retention rate in district compared to 90.2 percent in state
  • $27,617 spending per student, up 7.22 percent compared to 2022

Northbrook/Glenview School District 30

  • No. of elementary schools — 3 (Maple, Wescott, Willowbrook)
  • All three received an exemplary designation (highest rating)
  • 78 percent of students demonstrated proficiency in English Language Arts, compared to 35 percent in the state
  • 78 percent of students demonstrated proficiency in Math, compared to 27 percent in the state
  • 78 percent of students demonstrated proficiency in Science, compared to 51 percent in the state
  • 99.8 percent participation rate with testing
  • 90.5 percent teacher retention rate in district
  • $22,405 spending per student, up 9.17 percent compared to 2022

According to Superintendent Dr. Emily Tammaru, in a letter to parents, the district is among the top 10 percent in the state supported by data from Illinois Assessment for Readiness. She added, "even in high-achieving schools like ours, there is always room to grow."

West Northfield School District 31

  • No. of elementary schools — 2 (Field School, Henry Winkelman Elementary School)
  • Both schools received an exemplary designation (highest rating)
  • 64 percent of students demonstrated proficiency in English Language Arts, compared to 35 percent in the state
  • 56 percent of students demonstrated proficiency in Math, compared to 27 percent in the state
  • 74 percent of students demonstrated proficiency in Science, compared to 51 percent in the state
  • 98 percent participation rate with testing
  • 86 percent teacher retention rate in district
  • $22,796 spending per student, down 4.44 percent compared to 2022
