Village President Nominates Predecessor To Fill Vacant Seat
Glenview Village President Jim Patterson appointed former Village President Kerry Cummings to fill former Trustee Scott Britton's seat.

GLENVIEW, IL — Former Village President Kerry Cummings is set to return to the Glenview Village Board of Trustees Tuesday, as her successor appoints her to fill the final four months of a former trustee's term.
Pending approval from other trustees, Village President Jim Patterson asked Cummings to former Trustee Scott Britton's seat starting with the Jan. 15 meeting. Britton resigned in November 2018 following his election to the Cook County Board of Commissioners representing the 14th District.
Patterson's predecessor is due to serve out the remainder of Britton's term, which expires in April. The seat is one of three being sought by seven candidates.

Cummings was elected to two terms as village president in 2005 and 2009 before deciding not to seek a third in 2013.
Two years after leaving the board, Cummings was appointed to chair a committee to develop an update to the village's Comprehensive Plan, which was adopted in 2017. She also served as a member of the prior comprehensive plan review committee in 2004.

A resident of Glenview for more than 30 years, Cummings previously served four years on the Glenview School District 34 board and as a village trustee from 2003 to 2005. She was preceded as village president by Larry Carlson, who served from 2001 to 2005 following Nancy Firfer's two terms in office from 1993 to 2001.
Cummings is due to be sworn in before a contentious vote on whether the village will pursue abiding by Cook County minimum wage and sick leave ordinances beginning in 2020. Trustees voted in June 2017 to exercise Home Rule authority to opt out of the regulations.
Britton was the lone vote in support of the higher wage at the time, but a combination created by the November 2018, which changed the composition of state government provided a mandate from Glenview voters to match the Cook County rules. Gov. J.B. Pritzker pledged Monday to pursue a statewide increase in the minimum wage, which was vetoed by former Gov. Bruce Rauner.
