1 Dead in Lake County Crash

The collision happened Friday afternoon.

LAKE COUNTY, IL —A 89-year-old Fox Lake woman is dead following a two-vehicle crash Friday afternoon, authorities said. The collision happened at about 12:05 p.m. at Wilson Road and Route 60 in Fremont Township. A preliminary investigation shows a 2005 Dodge Neon, driven by an 89-year-old Fox Lake woman, was traveling south on Wilson Road when the driver stopped at the stop sign and attempted to make a left turn onto eastbound Route 60, according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said the driver turned in front of the path of a westbound 2018 Kia Forte driven by a 28-year-old Lake in the Hills man and the driver of the Kia was unable to stop to avoid hitting the Dodge, striking the the driver’s side of the car. There is no stop sign for traffic on Route 60.

The Fox Lake woman was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville where she was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital. The driver of the Kia was treated and released by paramedics at the scene.

An autopsy will be scheduled for the Fox Lake woman.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
