Cross-Dressing Armed Robbery Suspect in Custody: Police

Christopher Hornezes is accused of using a knife and dressing in a wig and women's clothes to rob businesses in Gurnee and elsewhere.

Police have taken into custody a man accused committing a series of armed robberies in a wig and women's clothing in Gurnee and other Lake and Cook County communities, according to the Gurnee Police Department.

Christopher Hornezes, 27, was wanted by police in connection with armed robberies last week in Gurnee, Lincolnshire and Northbrook, and arrest warrants had been issued.

Hornezes was taken into custody in Chicago at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, April 9, according Gurnee police's Facebook page. Police have not released information yet about how Hornezes was apprehended or whether he has been charged for any crimes.

The Gurnee armed robbery took place in the 6900 block of Grand Avenue at about 9:30 a.m. on Friday, April 8. During the Gurnee robbery, Hornezes reportedly wore blue skinny jeans and a brown wig and a pony tail. He also was accused of stealing a car Thursday, April 7, in Waukegan, according to Gurnee police.

The latest robbery happened the morning of Saturday, April 9, at the Shell/Circle K station on Milwaukee Avenue and Aptakisic Road in Lincolnshire. Hornezes also is accused of using a knife to rob a Subway restaurant near Lake Cook Road and Skokie Boulevard the night of Friday, April 8.

He was reported to be wearing a long wig, yoga pants, a skirt, striped top and white athletic shoes in both incidents, police said.
