Daycare Death: 2 Women Plead Not Guilty In Death Of 3-Month-Old
The three-month-old boy was found not breathing at the in-home daycare in August, authorities said.
ROUND LAKE, IL — A 52-year-old Round Lake woman and a 60-year-old Fox Lake woman have pleaded not guilty to charges in connection to the death of 3-month-old boy at an in-home daycare in August, the Daily Herald reports. Authorities were called to the home at 3:38 p.m. on Aug. 8 for a report of a baby that was not breathing and rushed the child to a suburban hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Lake County Coroner Howard Cooper determined the boy died from asphyxiation caused by an unsafe sleeping environment, and investigators said they found abusive practices and a neglectful environment at Korzun's daycare, according to the Daily Herald.
The owner of the daycare, Jane Korzun, 52, of the 300 block of Savoy Drive, has pleaded not guilty to enhanced endangering the life of a child, involuntary manslaughter and several counts of unlawful restraint and unlawful operation of a child care center. An employee at the center, Galyna Zaytseva, 60, of the 400 block of Blue Springs in Fox Lake, entered not guilty pleas to endangering the life or health of a child, aggravated battery, unlawful restraint and unlawful operation of a child care center.
