Frosty 5K Race a Success

Thanks to an uptick in temperatures, the Frosty 5K Race in Round Lake Beach wasn’t so cold this year – and participants loved the unexpectedly warm day.

A total of 110 runners and walkers of all ages participated in the event by the Round Lake Area Park District on Sunday, Feb. 23, which began and ended at the Sports Center, 2004 Municipal Way in Round Lake Beach.

“We had an absolutely perfect day of weather for the Frosty Footrace. Race conditions were great and helped bring out a strong showing of walk-in registrations,” said Matt Netrefa, Sports Center supervisor and organizer of this year’s race.

The top male finisher was Juan Carrera of Round Lake with a time of 16:38.6. The top female finisher was Pamela Staton of Chicago with a time of 18:39.2.
