The Goddard School Staff Bring Joy to Stay-at-Home Children
Teachers form a 15-Car Parade to bring the school to their children
When Governor Pritzker announced the “Stay At Home” order due to the Covid-19 pandemic, The Goddard School in Third Lake began operating as an Emergency Daycare Center to serve essential workers. That left most children at home with their parents waiting until the order is lifted.
The Owner and Staff at the school created an initiative called “School to You”. They decided that if the students couldn’t come to school, they would bring the school to them. This is being accomplished by providing resources to keep the children learning and having fun with the creation of a YouTube channel with videos featuring teachers reading books, singing songs, teaching Spanish and Sign Language. There is even a dance party video featuring the owner Mr. Dave, affectionately known as "dj Dave." Each classroom from Infants through Kindergarten are joining their friends using the popular ZOOM videoconferencing where they do virtual Circle-Time chats and more.
On Monday, March 30, the staff truly took the school out to the families by forming a 15-car parade, each one decorated, snaking through 7 Sub-divisions in Third Lake, Grayslake, and Gurnee which lasted 2 hours. The route and map were sent to parents so that they could anticipate the arrival of the honking horns and shouts of “we miss you!” Parents and children lined the streets to get a chance to wave to their favorite teachers. It was truly inspiring.

“The staff has been phenomenal during this unusual pandemic,” stated owner David Raye, “they are truly on the front-lines of this invisible war and performing their job with big smiles.”
There is another parade scheduled for this coming week to visit additional areas in Central Lake County.
