Lake Co. DOT Plans $98M In Road Projects For 2026

The program includes 30 projects across Lake County, with new roundabouts, path expansions and major resurfacing work planned for 2026.

LAKE COUNTY, Ill. — The Lake County Division of Transportation has announced a $98 million construction program for 2026 aimed at maintaining and modernizing county roads, bike paths and bridges.

The plan includes approximately 30 transportation projects scheduled to be under construction throughout the year. Several major efforts, including the Arlington Heights Road reconstruction and the Hunt Club Road at Washington Street intersection project, will continue from 2025 into the new construction season, according to a news release from the Lake County DOT.

New projects planned for 2026

Among the new projects slated to begin this year are multiple roundabout installations and path improvements across the county.

A single-lane roundabout will be constructed this spring at Russell Road and Kenosha Avenue, followed by another roundabout later this summer at Russell Road and Lewis Avenue. Additional work includes a planned single-lane roundabout at Deep Lake Road and Depot Street, scheduled to begin this summer, county officials said.

Construction is also underway on the Washington Street Path project, which will address missing sidewalk and bike path segments between Sextant Drive and Almond Road.

As part of its ongoing maintenance priorities, LCDOT will complete several resurfacing and bridge repair projects in 2026.

Planned resurfacing projects include:

  • Cedar Lake Road (Hart Road to Monaville Road)
  • Cedar Lake Road (Townline Road to IL 60)
  • Fairfield Road (Nippersink Road to IL 60)
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Drive (IL 131 to Commonwealth Avenue)
  • Old McHenry Road (Cuba Road to Quentin Road)
  • Russell Road (Kilbourne Road to IL 132)

Scheduled bridge repairs include:

  • Dilleys Road at Mill Creek
  • Pulaski Drive at US 41
  • Robert McClory Bike Path at IL 173
  • Russell Road at the Des Plaines River

Officials said the program prioritizes keeping existing infrastructure in a “state of good repair” while also improving safety and traffic flow across key corridors.
